British Parts Found in Russian Drones, Zelensky Reveals

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that British-made microcomputers are among over 100,000 foreign components found in Russian missiles and drones targeting Ukraine. Following Sunday's deadly attack, Zelensky urged for more potent sanctions, highlighting parts from allied nations, including Germany, Japan, and the US, in Russian weaponry. The UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has responded by intensifying crackdowns on British firms linked to Russia's military supply chain.

The DBT emphasised its stern approach, noting it has banned exports of numerous goods to Russia, particularly battlefield items identified by Ukraine. A government spokesperson reaffirmed the seriousness of these reports, stating that violators of sanctions could face severe penalties or criminal charges. Sanctions have already placed over £20 billion (953 billion Thai baht) of UK trade with Russia under restrictions.

Zelensky's call to action on social media focused on closing loopholes that enable circumvention of sanctions. He asserted that nations supporting Ukraine possess comprehensive data on companies whose products are still utilised by Russia. He also identified parts from China, Taiwan, and the Netherlands in the Russian arsenal.

The impact of the invasion was tragically evident in Lapaivka, where a Russian strike killed four members of a family, including a 15-year-old girl. Russia launched 549 missiles and drones primarily at the Lviv region overnight, demonstrating its continued military aggression since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.

Despite severe sanctions, Russia has maintained its economy by enhancing military expenditure and securing energy trade with China and India. However, increasing strains are becoming apparent, with some western experts pointing to potential economic recession. Russian Minister for Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, cautioned in June that their economy was nearing a recessionary phase.

Key Takeaways

  • Zelensky reports British microcomputers in Russian drones, calling for stricter sanctions.
  • The UK has banned over £20 billion in trade with Russia, targeting military components.
  • Despite sanctions, Russia sustains its economy by shifting energy trade to China and India.

I'm surprised Britain still makes anything!

They say "microcomputers" so I doubt the makers knew what they would be used for but anyway... I don't know the reason why Russia has not been banned from trading with the west completely.

Easy, money and profit!

Stop all other countries interacting with Russia and the Ukraine and the war will stop.

By all, I mean freeze all bank accounts and passports of those citizens and foreigners dealing with those citizens. No foreign aid, no red cross, no help of any kind, no foreign travel in or out, all international travel and trade banned, complete isolation.

Russia will still get nearly all it needs from China. 👍

Just the same as Iran's Revolutionary Guard. They don't want to apply sanctions on IRG since EU companies do business with them.

Yep, it's just business - got to keep the money flowing. The items in particular will be Raspberry Pis. I buy mine from an ASEAN distributor with a Thai office - good luck with shutting down Russian access to the Raspberry Pi worldwide distribution structure.

This conflict highlights the depth of infestation of the 'money disease'. It can be argued that it was started in order to destroy the Russian state, so their wealth of resources could ultimately be converted into western profits. The main weapon of sanctions (money warfare) was supposed to be all that was needed. Now we have the MIC being built up as the economic saviour and, of course, Trump is using the conflict to economically cripple Europe in order to, what else, make money.....

I mean what does Mr Beard in Kiev think ? Despite any sanctions, Russia has powerful allies all over the world who do not give a hoot on any threats from America or the eratic european union.

We create quite a few homegrown terrorists.

Although to be fair we still import a lot as well.

And Kim Jong Un has a fleet of Maybachs amongst his vast collection of smuggled vehicle's, despite NK having the world's  strictest sanctions.

It happens, stuff gets through.

So...Palestine Action was wrong to target British war suppliers to Israel, eh?

They still make a load of weapons of mass destruction in association with Israel on UK soil.

loads of Chinese copies/clones of the raspberry Pi now...so I suspect the parts are in fact from the washing machines that evil Putin Hitler has confiscated from his citizens. 😋

Perhaps 'the west'  needs the thing that Russia sells   insignificant things like oil and gas perhaps ?

Also Russia can trade with everyone else who is not 'the west'

ever heard of BRICS ???
