They initially suspected it to be maybe politically motivated since she’s a politician, but that has since been ruled out and it very much looks like the attacker/attackers might be one of her/both of her children.

Son handcuffed and arrested.

 

And both were adopted!

Son prime suspect with little doubt.

Victim was found at home in an armchair.

Son is a "refugee" with "psychological" problems.

On the Night Train to Herdecke Bahnhof, I thought of Heinz Rühmann, born in 1902, whose film Es geschah am helllichten Tag premiered in 1958 — roughly ten years before Iris (Ute Iris Staltzer) was born — and I wondered whether the step-daughter’s knife had only meant to turn the Harz of stillness back into the Herz of feeling.

 

I wish Kripo Hagen a lot of luck with solving this case, and the unmentioned spouse a great deal of strength.
