October 23, 2025Oct 23 The US has sanctioned Russia’s major oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, as part of increasing efforts to pressure the Kremlin to end its war in Ukraine. This move, marking the first sanctions against Russia since Donald Trump returned to the White House, aims to curtail revenue streams that fund the war. Highlighting the US's hardened stance, the sanctions follow a canceled summit between Trump and Putin. This shift reflects growing US frustration over Putin’s demands, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasizing the need for an immediate ceasefire. The UK had already sanctioned both Rosneft and Lukoil, while the EU sanctioned only Rosneft, largely due to Hungary and Slovakia's dependence on Russian oil. The sanctions target Russian oil sales, which Edward Fishman, a former state department official, identified as key to Russia's economy. Trump, alongside NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, confirmed the cancellation of his meeting with Putin, citing a lack of progress in negotiations. Controversy arose following a Wall Street Journal report alleging that restrictions on Ukraine's use of British-supplied missiles were lifted. Trump denied these claims, insisting that the US was not involved with the missile use. The recent sanctions are a strategic attempt to disrupt Russian oil revenues. Previously, Trump had imposed a tariff on goods from India over its purchase of Russian oil. The sanctions could affect foreign traders and banks dealing with Russian oil, signaling potential shifts in global oil trade dynamics. The sanctions represent a victory for Ukraine and its European allies. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen commended the new sanctions and the planned EU measures. The EU is set to ban Russian liquefied natural gas imports, target Russian banks, and impose other sanctions to maintain pressure on Russia. Key Takeaways US sanctions target major Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil. The move aims to cut funds for Russia's war efforts in Ukraine. The US and EU continue to coordinate efforts against Russian aggression. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Guardian 2025-10-22
October 23, 2025Oct 23 Didn't we all think the whole world--which I think may include the US--was already imposing sanctions on Russia??? Apple released its newest iPhone in Russia first--unbelievable!
October 23, 2025Oct 23 Us oil imports from Russia have been banned by the Biden administration. What is the added effect of these new sanctions?

October 23, 2025Oct 23 Popular Post More than that. The EU has just passed the 19ient "sanction packet" against Russia. I am confident, that when a few years down the road, the EU will pass the 77tied sanction packet, Putin will cry for mercy.

I think this direct sanctions on two biggest suppliers of Russian oil may impact oil revenue that fund the war. Their biggest buyers are from the Indians and Chinese. The sanction will force Indian refineries which are mostly private corporations to re-consider the risks on finance, insurance and trade. India buy almost 90 million tons of oil worth close to 3 B USD. Some of the Chinese private refineries may re-consider to buy Russian oil for the same reason.

So it's more indirect than direct sanctions that may have an effect. Will the Trump administration also implement those indirect sanctions too?
October 24, 2025Oct 24 why last NATO Gen.Secs act sorta nervously? Like they perform a dance with facial expressions of Max Headrum from MTV 80-s? Is it some kind of subliminal messaging or something very simple like stimulants? With Trump family it is clear - arms asides, face up - Christ the Redeemer. Ok, we got it. It looked funny on Eric Interesting - you can see a lot if you turn off the sound. But Rutte ?! Do the grown men can act like teenager at the first trip to go-go?

Indirect don't explicitly name the target. I stand corrected. In any case, China has also halted buying from Russia. Oil price spike after the new of the sanction and adding woes to the sticky inflation. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/china-state-oil-majors-suspend-russian-oil-buys-due-sanctions-sources-say-2025-10-23/

October 24, 2025Oct 24 The rage from Vlad's people does seem upset enough that this might actually have a huge financial effect. Trump feels trampled and maybe this response will do.
October 27, 2025Oct 27 He should have done this 9 months ago with un interrupted material support to Ukraine and her people….the war would have probably been over by now and Russia under new management……ah well we are stuck with Donnie.

That's funny. Biden stopped the arms shipments to Ukraine that Trump initiated. Biden cancelled Trump imposed sanctions on Russia.
