In a significant advisory, the Malabon City Police Station has issued a stern warning against individuals who steal power cables during fire emergencies. This announcement follows a massive blaze that engulfed a residential area in Sitio 6, Brgy. Catmon in Malabon City on Wednesday, October 22. The public warning was conveyed through the police's Facebook post on Thursday, October 23, highlighting possible legal consequences for offenders.

The police emphasized that stealing or cutting power cables during a fire is strictly prohibited and poses additional risks to fire victims and responding authorities. “Anyone caught stealing cables will face serious charges and harsh penalties under the law,” the statement read. The police urged the community to cooperate with authorities and report any suspicious activity by contacting their station.

The warning comes in response to a viral video showing a man pulling and cutting power cables near a church in the affected area. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that the fire was elevated to Task Force Alpha, resulting in the destruction of approximately 1,500 homes.

Experts and local officials expressed concern over the potential dangers posed by such illegal activities during emergencies. The reckless handling of power cables can lead to further hazards, including electrical shocks and loss of emergency power sources critical for firefighting operations. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any breaches to help maintain safety and order.

Looking forward, authorities are expected to increase patrols and monitoring in fire-prone areas to prevent similar incidents. Cooperation with local communities will be intensified to ensure quick reporting and response to suspicious activities. The police continue to remind the public of the grave legal repercussions and safety risks associated with tampering with electrical infrastructure during crises.
