Try another insurer and be prepared to pay a higher premium.

Why not try with your wife as policyholder/main driver and you as secondary driver.

You are too old for many insurers:-

The maximum age for a main driver on a Roojai car insurance policy is 70, based on requirements for some policies, though other policies may accept drivers up to 75. You must meet this age requirement to be eligible as the main driver, though specific policy types may have slightly different limits.

  • Main Driver Age:
The primary driver must be between 20 and 70 years old for some policies, with other plans extending the upper limit to 75.

Happy to do that when the time comes for renewal....Jan 2026....but is my age going to be a barrier with other insurers?

Still fit and healthy thanks....

Contact an independent insurance broker and ask for help in finding a solution that fits.

One such broker monitors this sub-forum. You might wish to start with them.

Too old too drive a vehicle.

Too old to use online banking.

What else?

There is no single "maximum age" to insure a driver in Thailand, but some insurers have restrictions, and rental companies often set limits around 70–75 years old. For voluntary car insurance, many companies require the main driver to be between 20 and 70 years old, though some policies may allow for older drivers. The best approach is to get specific quotes from insurers, as age restrictions can vary.

Too old for health insurance.

That's what I'm saying.

You are 77 and your gf does not drive ! Time she did and got a licence, quite easy. Soon you will have no insurance, what happens then?

You can get a quote online from Roojai.

Can't hurt to try.

As suggested, try Roojai, and don't even mention you, as policy in wife's name, and choose 'any driver' option.  Wife as main, if asked, and don't mention if she is licensed or not.

If wife is mentioned as main driver, Roojai will require you to upload photo of her driver's license. At least that was required of us when renewing insurance earlier this year.

It was Roojai that notified they would not be renewing....7 years on and off being insured by them ( couple of new cars and free insurance in between) one accident in over 50 years of driving  and they terminate....ooh well.

Can you let me know what company this is with?

Most insurers want the Drivers licence number before proceeding.....at the end of the day we will go down the route of driving lessons for her and hopefully a licence at the end of it......BTW she did have a drivers licence 20 odd years (before we met) ago and let it lapse.

If her license was issued in 2003 or before, there's a chance that it was a lifetime license. If it was her first license, then likely not. If it was a lifetime license, the DLT will issue her a new one. Might want to check.

Make do with only the compulsory insurance.

Or

Drive more carefully.

Or

Drive without any insurance (and even more carefully.

Or

Give up driving altogether and use Grab or Bolt

Try a good insurance broker to find an alternative...driving your own car or bike,  will come far cheaper then getting scammed by all those private cars with drivers...or the official taxis ..

No secret that some of the biggest crooks are the policy makers running banks or insurance firms at the top of the food chain. In Thailand, any excuse will be good to avoid refunding, be it for a car or home issue. Best to avoid driving your self. Best to hyper secure your home. Best to avoid the trouble. Because when you are in trouble here as a falang...good luck to get justice.

I just have Option 1, the gov minimum insurance.

Saves lots of money and problems.

No driving license, no problem gov min still covers unlicensed drivers.
