Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has expressed deep regret that he could not pay his respects to the late Queen Mother, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, due to his current imprisonment. His daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, revealed his feelings following a family visit at Klong Prem Central Prison in Bangkok on October 27.

At around 11.30, Paetongtarn, accompanied by her husband Pidok Suksawat, visited Thaksin at the prison for about 30 minutes. After the meeting, she briefly spoke to the media, saying her father’s health was stable but that he remained somewhat stressed. “My father is okay health-wise, though he has some stress,” she said.

Paetongtarn added that Thaksin was particularly saddened by being unable to attend the royal funeral, explaining that he had served the late Queen Mother for several years in the past. “My father said he was sorry that he did not have the chance to pay his respects because he used to work in service to Her Majesty for many years,” she told reporters. She also mentioned that the family had privately discussed their deep gratitude for the Queen Mother’s kindness.

It is understood that the Shinawatra family will continue to pay tribute to the Queen Mother privately, reflecting their appreciation and respect for her lifelong dedication to the Thai people. The matter has also drawn public attention as Thaksin’s remarks underscore his personal sense of loss and continued connection to the monarchy.

  • I think not only Thaksin will regret this, but many people who loved the Mother of Thailand but are in prison or hospitals will feel the same.. So why is Thaksin given again this attention.....

  • Only himself to blame

  • He only gets promoted by the news media, without the brown-nosing he would be gone and forgotten locked away where he should be.

He's got a lot of money, albeit stolen from this country?

Queen Sirikit was a beautiful symbol of her country. While King Bhumibol governed, the Queen presented Thailand to the world. Jim Thompson revived Thai silk but Queen Sirikit promoted it worldwide and resurrected mudmee. Perhaps I'm just getting old and sentimental but I have no agenda. I'll miss her.

Sure the victims and their families of the over 3,000 he authorized killing, as well the hundreds that have died in the South, directly because of his callous immoral orders given while he was running the government that he bought, also missed paying respects. He was waffling back and forth, anti or pro royal, depending whatever suited his greedy power hungry convenience and appetites.. Trying to drum up sympathy?? Too many now see through his devious dishonest corruptions...

Has this man no shame, he is of no importance to anyone.

Let him sit in his prison cell and reflect on his past deeds and to think he may not have many years left

Why should anyone care if he regrets paying his respects. BTW many thais have paid their respects in their own way. What he’s talking about is the grandiose spectacle that would’ve surrounded him.

Oh, poor boy, everyone knows you crave attention.:coffee1:

I anxiously await the day he openly admits that he regrets returning to Thailand and re-entering the political arena. :jap:

The only reason that he feels regret is that he could not make his respects into a political marketing tool.

Thaksin's ony regret these days is that he can not make the grand gestures in public nor on the internet. He has to rely on his daughter to do it for him.

His real regret is gong to come if the election is held before he is able to be out and about.

We have no idea what he thinks or regrets.  She could be making it all up.

As a former Prime Minister, he held office twice under the reign of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit—a historical fact.

However, his governance did not align with the expectations Her Majesty might have held for him. During his second term, his leadership in Thailand bore certain parallels to the approach pursued by Donald Trump in the United States in recent years. His conduct deviated significantly from the values espoused by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who emphasized the importance of leading a modest life, finding joy in simplicity, and prioritizing the well-being of one's family. King Bhumibol’s philosophy highlighted the significance of securing basic needs—having a stable job and the ability to provide for ones loved ones—while cherishing life’s small yet meaningful moments.

In contrast, Thaksin's tenure represented a stark departure from these principles. His priorities appeared to revolve around fostering business agreements, particularly during foreign visits, and were mired in allegations of corruption, dishonesty, and a pursuit of personal financial gain.

Given this legacy, I find it reassuring that Tony will not have the opportunity to pay his respects to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit.

Don’t forget the extrajudicial killings of around 2,000 Thais.

Let me count the reasons why

He was the greatest PM Thailand has ever seen?
He remains a powerful and influential political force?

He is one of the richest man in Thailand

His family wields great political power having had at least 3 family members as PM?

feel free to add more reasons
