Seoul Honors Trump with Replica Crown, Stirring Mixed Reactions

South Korean officials presented US President Donald Trump with a replica of an ancient golden crown during his visit to Gyeongju on Wednesday. This gesture highlighted Trump's well-known admiration for monarchies, even as he faces criticism back home for his perceived "king-like" behaviour. The gift, modelled on a crown from the Silla dynasty, symbolises peace and prosperity, values that resonate with the historical significance of the era.

Trump's visit to South Korea includes discussions with President Lee Jae Myung and tense trade talks with China's Xi Jinping. The presentation of the replica crown was part of a grand ceremony marking his arrival. The Silla dynasty, which the crown represents, reigned from 57 BC to 935 AD, and the crown is touted as the largest and most luxurious from that period. Seoul's presidential office explained that the crown signifies the divine link between leadership and the heavens.

Amid protests in the United States against what some perceive as Trump's erosion of democratic norms, the US leader received the crown and the Grand Order of Mugunghwa, South Korea's highest honour. He expressed his appreciation, even suggesting he would like to wear the medal immediately. These accolades come alongside a gold-themed state luncheon dessert intended to symbolise the enduring alliance and commitment to peace between the nations.

Despite these gestures, tensions on the Korean Peninsula remain high. North Korea continues to engage closely with Russia, ignoring South Korea’s diplomatic advances. Furthermore, Trump confirmed he would not be meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during this visit, dampening speculation about a possible breakthrough in stalled talks.

Key Takeaways:

  • Trump received a replica Silla dynasty crown in South Korea, highlighting his fondness for gold and monarchies.
  • The crown represents peace and prosperity amid tense trade discussions and protests against Trump in the US.
  • Trump will not meet North Korea's Kim Jong Un, maintaining the diplomatic deadlock.

Liberal by Asian standards.

Still quite nationalistic, and more socially conservative than American Libs for sure.

Exactly.

That why I wonder why all these ultra Liberal American Wokies who couldn't possibly live in America under Trump come to a place like Thailand to hang around Supertown and Dongtan beach.

Let me help you understand a couple of considerations: I came to enjoy my earned retirement in Thailand because ... 1). I would be hard pressed to live a working middle class retirement in the USA on my sustainable $2400. budget per month ($1605 of that from earned SS). 2). Tied to that, I have world class healthcare available at a fraction of USA cost. Reflecting on another of your comments, you are quite correct regarding definition of liberal/conservative, as in most cultural matters, depends on the culture. While the American trump supporters like to picture those of us with education as flaming liberals, I am just moderately left of center in much European judgement.

In other words, you don't really care about living in a deeply nationalistic and conservative society often ruled by a military Junta and with well documented human rights issues as long as the service is cheap. Got it.

Now, back to calling Trump a fascist from your favourite haunt. 😄

Just read he immediately orders a cheeseburger from the Hilton he was staying at in Korea specifically asked staff for American cheese. This is after a full course dinner from the Korean President. I don’t understand why these nations shower him with gifts. He gives a baseball bat to Korean President. I’m not a Donnie Fats fan at all, especially after his Jan 6

Don't encourage him, for goodness sake.

Trump has always wanted to be accepted by those as he see’s powerful and strong and pretend he is to. What he fails to comprehend is that will never be the case despite him now being potus. As he demonstrates regularly he hasn’t the standard of intelligence required, resorting to bullying and offensive comments in trying to disguise his general ignorance of world politics and using plagiarism to self promote himself. World leaders know how to deal with such a malignant narcissist, just like a little kid. Telling him want how smart he is and giving him presents means he’s easy to manipulate, as proven in his deal making where he gives away more than necessary. Putin, Xi and Kim Jong Un have played him by exploiting this very trait and he’s still too naive to understand it. He’s a tool to be used when required.

No, this is diplomacy.  The Koreans are serious folk, they won't be doing this for yuks.

Massage his immature ego, get big reward.

Is that your coping mechanism?

Interesting to read the different ways leftists try and cope with Trump’s success at home and internationally.

Even stranger than Biden’s international disasters.

There was no insurrection.  Get your facts straight before posting.

It came from the Louvre or what ? 🤣

There is so much irony in this situation that I can't possibly take it seriously, but this is the same guy who, at a MAL banquet, bragged during dessert that each guest was served one scoop of ice cream, but "I get two scoops because I'm the president."  Do bear in mind that DT wants to build a seaside resort in NK, which was one of the motivations of that visit he paid to Kim during his previous term; I would suspect this gets a lot more coverage in South Korea than it does in the US, which is close to nil.  SK can mock him because they know he will not let the North conquer the whole peninsula.

Can we call him "The Burger King" now?
