The issue with ‘leftwing’ politics in the U.S. is its winning elections.   Seems like voters want it.

Watch your mouth. JonnyF an esteemed member of this community and has firsthand knowledge of your version of democracy as it has destroyed his home country same as what you want happened to yours

The gop and the Trump candidate lost because the people of NYC did NOT want him, and it was THEIR choice to make.

Not yours or Trump's.

If YOU don't like their choice, don't live there, and stop whining about it.

US President Donald Trump has made remarks in Miami, criticising New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani after his electoral victory.

Did "Democracy" fail to work?  Did not the New York voters select their choice at the ballot box?  What options were there to Mamdani:  Sliwa and Cuomo? Who has to live with the election results?  Trump?  No - New Yorkers.  If New Yorkers don't like the selection they can change it next election.  Do I care that Zohran Mamdani is mayor of New York.  Nope.  I'm more concerned with who is PM in Thailand. Mamdani will bring Communism back to the United States.  Bunk - Mamdani is a Socialist and its up to the voters whether or not they want a Socialist city.

What world do you actually live in? No one ever ever expected anything other than a left loon to be mayor in nyc. And stop whining about Trump, it looks silly.

Sounds attractive, but is Mamdani eligible to stand for the Presidency/VP?

Well said.  Much like those who moan about the London Mayor, who has been repeatedly re-elected by Londoners.

He is a socialist- democrat, same as present norwegian government.

Check all polls about "quality living issues", scandinavia on top, us between 15 and 20th in rankings.

(Exept school shootings, murders and gun prosession).

Maybe you need more Mandamis?

And why scare sosialism the <deleted> of americans when never experienced ????

Ps: im norwegian conservative myself 😉

"Millions of billionaires are leaving New York"

Sure like all the wealthy people left London right?

I saw a nice clip about an actual New York billionaire who is absolutely fine being taxed.

"Taxes pay for better transport, parks, schooling, police and so on. I want my children and grandchildren to grow up in a nice place. Taxes pay for a  nice place."

I don't think it was a ridiculous post and trump is far from perfect the previous post was stating not his first choice but voters have spoken so give the guy a chance.

Many posts are saying his promises are unachievable maybe so but we turn a blind eye to others promises I mean wall is now built and Mexico paid for it right ?

So even if mandami can achieve a portion of what he says it is a message that most working new yorkers want

I live in the world pf reality, which is obviously not the fantasy world of Trump that you live in,

In the real world, many people did expect Mamdani to win, and he did.

Nit so many people in the real world expected a convicted felon, serial liar and sex offender to be elected as president, but he was and now many people are regretting their electoral choice as most polls and many people have predicted.

Nobody seems to be blaming Mamdani for the government shutdown, but they are blaming Trump and the gop and not the democrats.

Are you doing to stop all the threads here on AN complaining about Trump by whining how silly all those posters are? Good luck with that.

If you really don't like my posts, then the simple answer is not to read them, as I WILL keep posting them.

I think the mayor of Beijing is infinitely more capable than the new mayor of NYC. Were I worried about personal safety, crime, riots, terrorism, social breakdown, and the collapse of public and private services, then I'd much rather be in Beijing.

I said earlier that the conditions that enabled Mamdani's win are understandable. And seeing what is going on with governmental chaos partly explains why I am not and have not been a Trump supporter for years and years on this forum. Trump's only major win so far this term is the same one he had the first term: tax cuts for billionaires, now made permanent. This is a slap in the face to every Gen Zer who can't pay rent, much less buy a home, own a new car, and afford simple groceries. There is an entire class of people in the US, the degreed and credentialed, who getting the same treatment working class people got a generation ago. They are being squeezed out. That is the what is meant by "affordability." Think Mamdani is going to solve it? If you do want to begin to solve it you'll need to make housing more affordable, wages higher, health care attainable, and stop charging prices for macaroni and cheese that ten years ago would have gotten you steak and champagne. To do that means reducing the demand for housing (getting rid of illegals, H1Bs, L1s), stop seeing wages undercut by illegals, H1Bs, and L1s, and stop seeing emergency rooms overwhelmed (by illegals, H1Bs, and L1s). Mamdani, AOC and the others aren't going to do that. They're going to bring in more and make the situation worse. Trump isn't doing anything about H1Bs and L1s either, and he's only making enough waves with deportation to generate sufficient PR.

You may not have pay notice that some form of socialist policies are adopted by Trump. Taking 10% of Intel by his administration to a controlling stake in Nippon Steel acquisition of US Steel are a page out of the socialist playbook. There are more like the Defense Department buying a 15% stake in MP Materials and Trump crafting export control deal with Nvidia are state directed socialism. Really nothing too concerning regarding Mamdani and his democratic socialism plan as there are already socialist policies at the federal level.

Socialist?

Fascist business policy typically involves a close partnership between the government and private enterprises, where the state exerts significant control over the economy while allowing for private ownership. This system, known as corporatism, aims to eliminate class conflict by organizing society into corporate groups that represent various economic sectors, promoting state-approved interests over individual rights.  (AI)

Winston Churchill wrote in 1927 that “If I had been an Italian I am sure I would have been entirely with you” and “don the Fascist black shirt.”[2] As late as 1940, Churchill was still describing Mussolini as “a great man.”

We have our El Taco.

Don't need to say anything on this one as the proof will be in the pudding... socialist/communist fairy-land utopias never work and only survive if they turn to authoritarianism.

Considering how expensive NYC is now, how on earth is the new mayor going to deliver on those promises of free bus travel/childcare/lowering the cost of living etc. in one of the most expensive cities on the planet? Where's the money coming from? Fantasy stuff really... I'll grab the popcorn and settle in to watch it all get worse, haha.

I see your point. Socialists are the workers, fascists are the corporatists. The latter is the form of crony capitalism in Trump's era.
