Trump Slams NYC Mayor-Elect Mamdani, Warns of ‘Communism’ Shift

US President Donald Trump has made remarks in Miami, criticising New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani after his electoral victory. Trump suggested that Mamdani’s Democratic socialist politics represent the broader views of the Democrats in Congress. Speaking at the American Business Forum, Trump stated, “If you want to see what Congressional Democrats wish to do to America, just look at the results of yesterday’s election in New York.”

This was Trump's first substantive response to the New York mayoral race since Mamdani defeated Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa and Andrew Cuomo, who ran independently after serving as Democratic Governor. Trump, who had supported Cuomo before the election, voiced his concerns about Mamdani’s victory, describing it as a shift towards communism.

Trump continued to express his disapproval, referring to New York under Mamdani as a representation of Communist ideologies. He warned that cities like Miami might become places of refuge for those trying to escape such policies. Trump had earlier avoided mentioning Mamdani's election directly but changed his tone during the Miami address, reported CNN.

Emphasising his stance from the White House, Trump said, “After last night’s results, the decision facing all Americans could not be more clear – we have a choice between communism and common sense.” He assured me that as long as he remained in his position, the United States would not shift towards communism.

Key Takeaways

  • Trump criticises Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani's mayoral victory in New York.
  • He suggested Mamdani’s politics reflect broader Democratic views and warned against communism.
  • Trump pledged that the US would not turn communist under his leadership.

He calls himself a democratic socialst. Is he a communist? Not really so this rhetoric is by definition incorrect. Is he far left? To say no would be denying reality. He's promised a lot now he has to fund it. Last figures I've seen estimate 800,000 to 1,000,000 people (tax payers) are going to leave. This is a socialist experiment in NYC. Will it work? Will he defund an already undermanned police force? Will bodegas which have been in NYC for 70 years and run by legal immigrants be forced out of business due to sate run supermarkets? How will freezing rents go? Not a great place to invest in property now IMO and maintenance on rental properties will suffer. Free transport? He can't do this. This will be up to the governor. Going to be interesting to see what happens. Success or a complete failure?

Like they say, if you want to wreck something just give it to the left.

Reminds me a lot of Humza Yousaf.

Such a shame for NY. Let's hope Trump can limit the damage he does.

Obviously has no knowledge of democracy. Like so many of the Trump minions. Some of you really ought to start thinking about moving to Putin Land, every thing you desire is already in place.

He can by just staying away from New York and pay his rightful taxes.

He has clearly stated he is a Democratic Socialist. Same political party name can be found in European countries. So, trump is just trying to use the big bugaboo. Shades of Sen. Joe McCarthy (R-Wis) of an earlier period.
