Immigration and police units have raided a resort near the Cambodian border in Chanthaburi province, arresting 42 Chinese nationals believed to be linked to a transnational scam operation. The arrests took place on 5 November after authorities received intelligence that the group was preparing to cross into Cambodia to join a call centre fraud network. Officers seized over 200 mobile phones and large amounts of electronic equipment, suggesting the site served as a temporary base for scam activities.

The operation, led by Chanthaburi Immigration Police, followed a tip-off from an informant working with the Provincial Police Investigation Division. The informant reported suspicious movements at a resort in Thap Sai subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron district, where a large group of Chinese nationals had checked in. Immigration officers, joined by the Chanthaburi Provincial Investigation Division, Pong Nam Ron Police Station, Tourist Police and the Marine Corps special unit, surrounded and searched 11 rooms at the resort.

Inside, officers found 42 Chinese nationals who had recently arrived from northern Thailand and were preparing to cross the border illegally. A search of the rooms uncovered evidence consistent with large-scale online fraud operations, including 215 mobile phones, 11 laptop computers, 807,000 baht in cash, 10 Myanmar SIM cards (labelled “mysim”), flash drives and notebooks containing operational notes.

Authorities determined that 35 of the suspects did not possess passports, while three others held passports without valid entry stamps. A total of 38 people were arrested for illegal entry and related offences, while all individuals were taken to Pong Nam Ron Police Station for questioning and legal processing. Officers are continuing to investigate the remaining suspects’ immigration status.

Police believe the group is connected to a cross-border criminal organisation engaged in online scams and human trafficking. Chanthaburi Immigration Police confirmed that they are coordinating with national and international law enforcement to trace the masterminds and financiers behind the operation. Investigators are also examining whether Thailand was being used as a staging ground for scam operations targeting foreign victims.

Authorities say further arrests could follow as evidence from seized digital devices is analysed. Law enforcement agencies plan to tighten border surveillance and monitor resort accommodations in border areas to prevent future criminal infiltration.
