That someone got away with it so far does not make it legal. It just means they were never convicted yet.

Would her family be as wealthy if she wasn't a powerful politician? I seriously doubt it but in her defense, most  would justify doing questionable stock trades that were in her position. She has never been convicted of a crime and will not be in the future. 

 

Members of congress should only be able to trade index funds IMO but forbidding a spouse would be difficult.  If the spouse's profession is stock investing, do they have to choose another profession? I think the answer is,  yes they do.

 

The elites( regardless of political affiliation ) are playing us all and this has always been the case.  Life is pretty darn good for most of us so the system isn't failing.  It is  frustrating  at times...
