Nancy Pelosi has announced her retirement from Congress, marking the conclusion of a historic political career. In her announcement, Pelosi, 85, declared she will not seek re-election at the end of her term in January 2027. A prominent figure in American politics, Pelosi became the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House, leading the chamber from 2003 to 2023.

Pelosi first entered Congress in 1987, representing San Francisco. Rising through political ranks, she became Speaker in 2007, a role she held until 2011 and resumed from 2019 to 2023. Throughout her tenure, she was instrumental in key legislative achievements, such as Barack Obama's healthcare reforms and climate change initiatives during Joe Biden's presidency.

Pelosi's time in office was not without controversy. She was a focal point for Republican criticism, especially during her opposition to Donald Trump. She led efforts to impeach Trump on two occasions, both resulting in acquittals by the Senate. Trump's reaction to her retirement was dismissive, calling her "an evil woman" and a "tremendous liability."

As Speaker, Pelosi navigated complex political landscapes, shaping the legislative direction under various presidencies. She's also known for dramatic moments like tearing up Trump's State of the Union address. Beyond the national scene, she remained influential in state politics, significantly impacting California's redistricting efforts.

Looking ahead, Pelosi will conclude her term without seeking re-election. She has been succeeded by New York Representative Hakeem Jeffries as the Democratic leader in the House. Despite her retirement, her influence on American politics will be remembered, marking the end of a transformative era, reported BBC.

Key Takeaways

  • Nancy Pelosi announces she will not seek re-election in 2027.
  • First woman Speaker, Pelosi led key legislative moves and impeachments.
  • Her leadership style attracted both acclaim and sharp criticism.

When Pelosi became minority leader in 2003, the national debt stood at $6.2 trillion. When she turned over the speaker’s gavel, the national debtstood at $31.5 trillion. In other words, about 80 percent of the debt accumulated in all of U.S. history was accrued since Pelosi ascended to a leadership position in Congress.

Unfounded conspiracy theory. There is nothing shady at all about buying and selling stocks that were just about to have a major announcement or hearing etc.....all the while your wife is a prominent member of the government.

I agree if the criteria is making a fortune on the stock market with inside information that only members of Congress are privy to. She and her husband are worth about $230 million.

Would.  Maybe he’ll take the hint.

The USA is much better off without him.

During Ryan Paul's term, the national debt grew from $19 trillion to $27.75 trillions by the time Trump leave office.

Good riddance; get this particular species of Grannies into retirement fairytaling her great-great-great-grandkids on her achievements - happy retirement without giving POTUS a hard time nor flying into/out of Taiwan on a semi-conductor securing trip on board of an Air Force aircraft making the red brethren in the north nervous any longer .........

Accurate description from the Greatest President in U.S. history

Your numbers are wrong.  Paul Ryan was speaker from 2015 to 2019.  When Ryan left the debt was 22 trillion.

Using your “logic” you would have to agree that Mitch McConnell was her wingman… :coffee1:

Easy to afford rent boys with that sort of money to throw around.
