Talking Home

Featured Replies

Every time i went to Thailand, i used to comunicate to my family using emails. Somewhere i read the best way could be to bring an unvlocked mobile with me and buying some kind of telephone (mobile) card in Thailand. Is that so? If it is, where and for how much can i buy theses cards? how many minutes can i talk, using one?

voipdiscount.com - 300minutes/week free from a computer to a stationary numer to almost anywhere in the world

I bought a DTAC Happy, pay as you go sim card in MBK...it was cheaper by a mile than O2 UK, in fact they should be done for phone piracy the robbing gits.

Just buy the 300 baht top up cards as you need them.

I expect there are cheaper out there, but this was good enough for me at the time.

Or combine the two replies. Get yourself a DTAC sim to put in your mobile. Create a VOIPDiscount account. After creating the account log onto your account page and on the left you will see an option to "Get voipin number" Get this number (You can select any area you want) then in the VOIP config screen select "ALWAYS FORWARD" for your Voipin number. The number you forward to should be your DTAC mobile number.

Now when anyone in UK want to phone you they just dial your local voipin number (for most people this will be a free call cause it's local) and the call will be directed to your mobile in Thailand for FREE! (Up to 300 minutes a week) after that still very cheap.

I use it all the time. Only problem is that people in the UK keep forgetting the 6/7 hopur time dif! and I get calls in the early hours while I'm trying to sleep.
