A 6-wheel lorry driver lost control on Route 42 between Narathiwat and Pattani on 15 November, crashing into parked vehicles and a group of teenagers, killing one and seriously injuring another. The impact occurred near Ban Bana in Bana subdistrict, Muang district, when the truck struck several motorcycles, a sidecar motorbike and parked cars before hitting two youths waiting to collect a repaired motorcycle. Rescue workers rushed the injured teenager to Pattani Hospital while the other died at the scene.

Police said the green Hino truck, registration from Pattani, had been carrying a small backhoe when it veered sharply from the left lane. The force of the collision left four motorcycles and a sidecar scattered across the roadside, with a pick-up truck and a car sustaining damage. The truck came to a stop around 100 metres from the crash site, its front end crushed by the impact.

The victim was identified as 18-year-old Muham-mad Ridwan Jarong, who died instantly from severe head injuries and multiple lacerations. His body was sent to hospital for relatives to collect for religious rites. The seriously injured teenager was transported urgently for medical treatment.

Initial inquiries indicated that the lorry driver, had suddenly lost control before ploughing into the stationary vehicles and the two teenagers. Witnesses told police the young men had arrived moments earlier to pick up a repaired motorcycle from a nearby workshop. The crash happened so quickly that workers and bystanders could only react after hearing a loud bang.

After the collision, the driver moved the truck a short distance before walking into a police station to surrender. He claimed the “brakes failed”, leaving him unable to control the vehicle. However, several residents insisted the truck showed no signs of brake failure, suggesting the driver may have fallen asleep.

Daily News reported that police have detained the driver for questioning and will examine nearby CCTV footage to determine the cause of the crash. Investigators aim to establish whether mechanical failure or driver fatigue was responsible before proceeding with charges. Officers said the inquiry will continue until a definitive conclusion is reached.
