Prostate surgical treatment cost

Featured Replies

I have a relatively large prostate, more than 100 cc. For now, I take a medication to alleviate the symptoms but plan for surgery. With a prostate this size I was told there are two possible minimally invasive procedures: TURP and HoLEP (laser).
I have got cost estimates from a hospital and would like to compare with other hospitals.
Has anyone used TURP or HoLEP recently and how much did it cost?

I decided to have the HoLEP procedure done about 5 months ago before moving out to Thailand so I can't help you with a Thai price. As a comparison I paid (in UK) £8,135 for the procedure and 2 nights stay in the hospital. There was also an initial consultation which was £200 for 30 minutes. No longer need medication (Tamsulosin) and my PSI has fallen from a high of 7.2 to 2.5.

Thanks to all for this useful information. I am a little surprised that Bumrungrad is much cheaper than what I was quoted and it's not in a top hospital. I will investigate further.

Any that can do TURP or HoLEP in Bangkok at a reasonable price. I am under Thai Social Security and have a small private health assurance.

TURP involves a fair amount of bleeding and your prostate is like mine, quite large, Holep would be the better way to go..My Dr (Churaspong) believes Holep becomes the gold standard for large glands, while he agrees that there is a good potential in PAE.

Just some information that may be useful to others:

In a Bangkok private hospital linked to the Thai social security (SS).  I contribute under section 39 (432 Bahts/month).

1 - Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for a stone in my ureter. Cost before private assurance and SS: about 80,000 Bahts. Actually paid: 0

2 - TURP and destruction of large stones in the bladder. Cost before private assurance and SS: about 200,000 Bahts. Actually paid: about 40,000 Bahts.
