Ban these ridiculous visa waivers for developing nations, ban the DTV which is being exploited, and go back to 30 days so tourists go and stay in hotels and leave when they have to - NOT BECOME immigrants. 

 

It was succesful  and kept the crime rate and undesirables out. Now you have a full wave of immigration changing the face of Thailand, and in turn it's turning away tourists. 

 

Thailand simply does not have the resources to police the crime and ghastly behaviour from the foreigners who engage in such awful criminality and violence.

Maybe start with a decent registration system that can be used and checked at all immigration points.. It is ridiculous that when I re-enter Thailand, with my TDAC card, I have to go to my local immigration office for an address notification.. and a month later when I renew my visa they have to make new face pics, as they did at the entry, and for the re-entry permit visa ... Are the systems not connected?? It should be easy if all immigration offices could see everything of your visa all over Thailand, as now it looks that only the local immigration office it can do...How is it possible that people can stay 150 days by entering the country every time without being noticed???

I did suggest that the information immigration get when you come in could be filtered and printed just for over stays. Not hard but there has to be the will which maybe now they will have.

Surely software can be made available that links arrivals to departure dates, and red-flags those who have not been scanned out ?

They already have it.

When you enter Thailand, you get a stamp and a date in your passport by when you must leave, or admitted until.

If a person goes past that date and has not extended or left, then the data base can raise a red flag and the Police could go and check at the address on the TDAC, unless the person has moved. Then the cops can do what they should do and 'investigate'?

if they toughen it any more times then they will have to start deporting themselves just to keep the numbers up

A lieutenant colonel has been "tasked" with this? Or they just wanted to trot out an attractive immigration officer going about her regular duties for a PR puff piece?

What a beaut. Saying that, she’s probably heard it all and is possibly a nightmare to work for.

Coming into Don Mueang just before Covid, there was an absolute stunner on the desk. Mesmerising really. Half hoped my papers weren’t in order so I could be ‘questioned’.

It’s the obvious and easy answer. All the address notifications while in country are pretty useless unless there is follow up on those that over stay.

 

i have a feeling that they just can’t be bothered to do it.

Thailand and succesive adminstrations - most likely because they are very short term governments - try to push in as many people through the door as they can, basically you have a situation now that Thailand is an open door visa free policy for most fo the world (even developing nations with poor economies), push through many policies like the Marijuana fiasco ... but unless you actually have the resources to police so many visitors, that you can actually build the infrustructure (roads, traffic, public transportation) to cope with the huge numbers, that you police marijuana laws so it isn't smoked in public or leading to harder drugs around the country - then you create a mess. 

 

In a state like California you can legalise Marijuana, because if you dare smoke it in public you are done for - criminal record, and heavy penalities. In Thailand you Benidorm Brits smoking it openly around distressed tourists with children. 

 

By having such open borders, especially to these less developed nations, and by allowing long term stays - Thailand simply doesn't have the resources to police everyone of criminal intent. The headlines we see are probably just scratching the surface. 

 

But as they're usually only short term governments it's usually the next governments job to clean up - which they won't.  

 

Go back to the old visa policies - which were easy, and ironically meant more tourism into the country.
