Kremlin Welcomes US Security Shift as EU Raises Concerns

Featured Replies

Russia endorses President Donald Trump’s new National Security Strategy, marking it as closely aligned with Moscow’s viewpoints. The 33-page document, released this week, surprisingly omits Russia as a threat and warns of Europe’s potential “civilisational erasure.” It underscores curbing foreign influence and resisting the EU's "censorship."

Experts within the EU expressed disapproval of the strategy, citing similarities with Kremlin rhetoric and challenging its unwavering position on freedom of expression. Kremlin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, highlighted the document's alignment with Russian visions as a favourable development. While hailing it a positive manoeuvre, Moscow signals ongoing scrutiny before issuing final thoughts.

In the strategy, the EU’s role in obstructing US efforts to cease the Ukraine conflict comes under fire. The document suggests re-establishing stability with Russia as a means to economic recovery in Europe. It further urges the US to resist Europe’s trajectory, advocating for the resurgence of "Western identity."

Concerns arise within the EU, fearing that this softer tone towards Russia might disrupt efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. The narrative praises “patriotic European parties,” pushing for a European revival, and hints at a diminishing European identity unless countered. Some EU leaders such as German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul caution that issues within the document stray away from the traditional US-EU alliance agenda, reported the BBC.

The strategy emphasises the US strengthening its military relationships, demanding increased defence roles from Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Taiwan. Domestically, Democrats in Congress warn that this approach might deteriorate the US's foreign diplomacy. Jason Crow from Colorado criticises it as globally damaging, while Gregory Meeks from New York says it forsakes long-held US values.

Key Takeaways:

Russia praises the new US security strategy as aligning with its own views.
European leaders express concern over the document's rhetoric and implications.
The strategy emphasises US focus on military alliances and reduced European influence.

Not surprised in the least trumps a tremendous asset to the enemy…..not so much for democracy or the free world unfortunately.

Typical Trump.

Praise and help your enemy, but shun your one time friends and allies at the same time.

Given the rapidly changing Demographics in Europe, Trump is right to recognize the threat of Europe's declining civilization to the US.

If he hasn't done already, he might want to read some of Douglas Murray's excellent work on the subject.

The damage to US foreign relations to its allies will be felt beyond this administration. No allies will ever trust US as leader of the free world and it will be catastrophic to USA's standing in the world.

Trump is a wet dream for Putin, Xi, Kim and all the other despots and dictators around the world. Anybody as illiterate As Trump when it comes to world affairs is a blessing for a dictator, especially one who's advocating the demise of Europe and always supporting Putin, his genocide and his ridiculousness.

The world will be a much safer place once Trump is defeated or deposed.

Until your enemies become your friends and your friends become your enemies.

The United States should embrace Russia, China, and the BRICS and become the largest, most prosperous trading bloc in human history.  The EU and UK are lead weights on the ankles of a civilization which is drowning in its own irrelevance.

With the exception of Russia, the US is already BRICS countries' main trade partner! :coffee1:

You may have to re-think your rather naive opinion. EU countries consistently buying US bonds is the reason why US still continue to enjoy economic stability. Collectively EU countries are the largest buyers of US bonds in the world. If EU and Japan turned against US and sell their bond holdings, US will be heading towards the gutter relatively quick. Trump’’s security strategy is flawed in terms of the economic well being as well as foreign relationship with allies. It’s foolish and short-sighted.

After you spew, you could at at least include sources.Typical government - the UST figures are two years old.

The moon is made out of swiss cheese and the recent coronal mass ejections (CME) are Putin's fault.  Sources?  What sources.  I don't need no stinking sources. <laugh>

As a general rule, if I spout things, I usually back them up with a source (unlike some people)

In my opinion the US debt will be the proximate cause of the US economic collapse when it arrives.  Those bond holders will be holding worthless paper.
So I believe that a far better approach is to make the US, Russia, and China the three primary nodes of a multi-nodal world that capitalizes on global trade and not never ending wars (which of course requires Forever Enemies, like China and Russia).  If Europe and other US "allies" want to hold on to their Forever Enemies instead of sharing in the prosperity, let them.

My question to you is why is making Russia and China as the primary nodes for global trade better off when both these two countries combined are less than the EU countries in terms of trade, services and investments. Is shifting the security policies away from EU and berating EU is a good foreign policy when they are US biggest bilateral economic partner.

IMHO I think that the USA will recover from the Trump administration, nut it will take years and perhaps decades to do so, and only then, IF the gop grows a spine, and IF the democrats evert recover.

Having said that, I also think that ALL the current members of the house should compulsory be retired at age 60 and NO president should serve more that 2 terms and if the second term happens in the 60th year, they should ONLY serve 1 term, no matter what political party they come from, nor how good or bad they are.

I hope US will recover. The flawed democracy that allow Trump who has repeatedly shown disdain for democratic norms and institution and contempt for law and order to be elected need to be resolved. The electoral college is perhaps the biggest challenge, followed by Congress and judges

Sometimes I wonder if that’s his plan all along…..it’s hard for me to imagine a president who is so opposite from what America is in my view supposed to represent.Im also horrified that so many of my country men are bamboozled by the theater of this flimflam man.

Trump read a book? Pull the other one.

History shows diverse societies like the U.S. can thrive with smart policies—Murray's critique is sharp, but pairing it with views like those in The Next 100 Years by George Friedman shows how adaptation champions over alarm.

The US is a disaster. Racial/political tensions at an all time high. Debt sky rocketing. Crime off the charts.

Hardly a thriving diverse society. More like a warning to others. Not as bad as the UK (thanks to Trump), but not far off.

Like the idiot UK with its Brexit garbage it will take a generation of major reform to rehabilitate the place to a state where the free world will accept and trust it wholly again.

Of course, Putin welcomes the shift as he inspired it!

Blimey, surprised the UK has so many US bonds.

UK has overtaken China as the second largest holder of US bonds. UK do have some cards to play if Trump play hardball. I doubt Trump understand the economic significance of the large quantity of US treasuries held by European countries.

I see neither the Russians or the Chinese as "enemies."  Is see them as key players in global trade by which all participating nations and their citizens benefit.
In the old model all Westerners are raised from childhood to "hate Russia and China," and only the elites who benefit are those aligned with the manufacturing of the tools of Forever Wars.

The West, historically, has held the insistent policy of global confrontation.  Everybody is an enemy.  One side wins and everyone else loses in a zero-sum game of stupidity.
The East, historically, has held to policies of global cooperation.  Everybody is a potential trading partner.  Everyone benefits.

It's past time to discard the paradigm of global hegemony and embrace the new model of global cooperation.  Those who don't wish to to join will be left in the ash-heap of history. Like the EU, UK, CA, AU, and all those so-called bastions of "democracy" who now are Neo-totalitarian regimes which embrace draconian measures to clamp down on their citizens for "wrong-think" and "wrong-speech."  The new "Western" paradigm in the "Cradle of Western Civilization is now "criticize your government and go to prison," and "dare to criticize the government's move to flood their countries with third-worlders who are given front row seats at the table of government social largess - and go to jail."
