A 13-year-old boy was buried alive in a landslide on Saturday in Santo Domingo, Albay, following heavy rains from tropical depression “Wilma.” Vice Mayor Mark Aguas reported that the boy was swept away by mud and soil while waiting alongside other children for coconuts near a river in Barangay Salvacion. Search and rescue teams, including members from the Bureau of Fire Protection and volunteer groups, have been deployed in the ongoing operation to locate the victim.

The incident was confirmed by Roderick Mendoza, head of the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office, who has joined the rescue efforts. The region has been experiencing continuous rain due to tropical depression Wilma and a shear line, which also triggered another landslide affecting several homes in Barangay Buhatan. Barangay Alimsog has been heavily impacted, with flooding reaching waist level and affecting hundreds of residents.

Local officials, familiar with the landslide-prone nature of the area, have been issuing warnings and monitoring high-risk zones as the severe weather persists. Authorities are still withholding the boy's identity until his family has been informed. The flooding and landslides have prompted officials to maintain active rescue teams throughout the affected zones.

The community and rescue operations are focused on managing the immediate crisis and providing relief to those affected. Emergency response teams continue to face challenges due to the persistent downpour, complicating the search and rescue efforts. Local residents and officials remain on high alert, preparing for further weather-related developments, reported Manila Bulletin.
