A significant surge of migrant crossings occurred on Saturday as over 700 individuals made their way across the Channel, marking the end of a four-week pause in similar activities. The Home Office reported that 737 migrants arrived in Dover on 11 boats, breaking the longest period without crossings in seven years. This influx increases the total number of Channel crossings this year to an imposing 40,029, surpassing last year's total of 36,816.

The previous recorded crossings were on November 14, which presented the longest cessation of activity since 2018. December usually witnesses fewer crossings due to adverse weather conditions, contributing to the recent lull. Despite the UK's heightened efforts to curb these crossings, comprehensive impacts are not anticipated immediately.

Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, alongside European ministers, is considering reforms to the European Convention on Human Rights to expedite the deportation of illegal migrants. Additionally, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has introduced asylum reforms, proposing temporary refugee status with reviews every 30 months and deportation if their home country is deemed safe.

As of 27 November 2025, the UK's collaboration with France under the "one in, one out" policy has resulted in the return of 153 individuals. A spokesperson from the Home Office previously described the volume of crossings as "shameful," emphasising the British public's demand for change. They asserted that nearly 50,000 people residing illegally have been removed and highlighted the historic agreement with France that allows for the return of small boat arrivals, reported BBC.

Key Takeaways:

  • Over 700 migrants crossed the Channel in one day, ending a 4-week lull.
  • This year’s total crossings now exceed last year’s figure of 36,816.
  • The UK government intensifies efforts with reforms and international collaboration.

Escorted by French authorities to middle of the channel and then guided to the land of milk and honey by the Royal Navy as usual?

The navy needs disbanding and the head court marshalling for doing the exact opposite of what a navy is supposed to do.

Oh yes. That will really discourage illegal immigration.

Seriously , is this the best response they can come up with ?

Our politicians are part of the problem since none of them have any real solutions.

Allowing and encouraging illegal migrants to enter Britanistan is not a bug in the system, it's a feature.

It is now impossible to believe that what is being allowed to happen is because of government and bureaucratic incompetence or ineptness.

The Britanistan government has progressed from a formerly benign form of acceptable incompetence into a malevolent authoritarian ideological terror state.  The indigenous natives have a very bleak future - they are the modern-day Aztecs. :coffee1:

That's nice. :bah:

You mean 700 muslims cross in 1 day.  Then there is the Home Secretary, a muslim, to welcome these wealthy, educated and law abiding people. They are going to England for a purpose,

I wonder how many of these 700 are future rapists and murderers, sorry I meant doctors and engineers.

On the plus side, at least the BBC won't struggle for their next Question Time audience.

Yes, you would think after the horrific attack in Australia recently, Bondi Beach, the UK Government would insist on more stringent safeguards, but no let them all in? Clueless!

That is the necessary sacrifice in our pursuit of a more just and equitable society.

You certainly would think that, assuming the UK government had Britain's best interests at heart.

Unfortunately, I no longer believe that to be the case.

That ship sailed long ago.

The Royal Navy does what it is told by the Government. That is what it is supposed to do.

In it's defence, the Royal Navy has been completely gutted over the last two decades to pay for and man the two ship carrier force - an idea which was floated (see what I did there eh?) to keep shipbuilding alive in some marginal constituencies including the then Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and seized upon enthusiastically by the naval service chiefs as a splendid excuse for some high level inter service and iternational willy waving! The effects of this effort on the Royal Navy, and indeed upon the rest of the British Armed Forces has been catastrophic. We now have two aircraft carriers yes, can only scrape together enough ridiculously expensive aircraft for one, and have to rely upon our allies to provide the bulk of their escort groups.. A potential force projection group, unfortunatly we have spent all our money on the ships, and so have no actual force to project with them! We have been forced to retire a major class of ship, the "Duke Class" type 23 frigattes because they are now so old and knackered that they are no longer seaworthy in heavy weather! No replacement shipa are even on the horizon! Things are so bad that last week a Russian submarine (and it's inevitable escorting tug) transiting the English Channel had to be shadowed by an RFA supply ship which had been lent a helicopter for a few days - no warships available. So yes the heads of the Royal Navy, over at least  a generation, have arguably been guilty of gross dereliction of duty, albeit not in the way you suggest!

Returning to the topic, the dinghy crossings, this government (and it's predecessors) frankly could not care less. They ignore what is rapidly becoming the settled opinion of the British people, which is that hundreds of illegal immigrants arriving daily, predominantly young unidentified and unknown males with no familial, cultural or societal ties with the UK is not acceptable,  I don't much like Farage and his party, but can absolutely understand their rise, and rather expect them to end up in power.

Maybe, a Russian submarine is for a purpose over there? :coffee1:

The  navy should start sinking every boat that comes over to England with unwanted mafia type people and it would soon stop and to no  hell with the European court and every other court as it would be only England's business and no one else's.

The 'border force' boats are crewed by University comrades who rescue the sinking [self inflicted ].dinghies and inform them of their rights.

Like an uninvited thug smashing up the gaff as he is evicted from a party, Labour are trying to do as much long term damage in as little time as possible before Reform get in.
