Thailand's Election Commission (EC) has set the next general election for 8th February 2026. This announcement follows the Royal Decree that led to the dissolution of the House of Representatives, which took effect last week. On Monday, the EC approved the draft plan for managing the election, leading to its formal declaration.

 

The election date, now official, marks a crucial moment for voters to elect Members of the House of Representatives (MPs). Advance voting is scheduled for 1st February, covering both in-constituency and out-of-constituency voters, alongside provisions for citizens with disabilities and the elderly. Candidate registration for constituency MPs is slated for the 27th to 31st of December 2025, with party-list MPs and prime ministerial candidates registering at the Centara Life Government Complex Hotel in Bangkok from the 28th to the 31st of December.

 

The advance voting arrangements allow voters to register outside their constituency or overseas between 20th December and 5th January. Additionally, voters unable to cast their ballot on election day can notify the relevant authorities between 1st and 7th February, and again from 9th to 15th February. This comprehensive plan will be fully detailed in the Royal Gazette, reported the Bangkok Post.

 

The announcement follows Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's commitment to return power to the people, voiced on 11th December during a joint parliamentary session concerning a constitutional amendment bill. The royal decree on 12th December solidified this pivotal move, officially dissolving the House of Representatives.
