A Brazilian professional footballer has been accused of attempting to evade payment at a bar in Udon Thani, triggering a violent confrontation that left several people injured before he fled the scene. The incident occurred on the morning of 15 December 2025 and has prompted a police investigation after the bar owner filed a formal complaint.

Police at Muang Udon Thani Police Station said they received a report on 15 December 2025 of a foreign man refusing to pay a bar bill and arguing with staff. The incident took place in Soi Samphanthamit, within the Day and Night bar and restaurant area and officers from the 191 patrol unit were dispatched to the scene.

According to witnesses, the suspect, later identified as Mr Osvaldo Dos Santos Neto, aged 42 and a Brazilian national, arrived alone at Tinder Bar at around 3am. He ordered several beers and purchased drinks for female staff, including the owner, remaining at the bar until morning.

Bar owner Ms Kallayanee Kaewnok, 29, said the total bill amounted to about 5,100 baht. She stated that the suspect initially agreed to pay but later claimed he could not access his banking application, saying his account had been locked and required facial verification or contact with his bank.

image.jpeg

As staff prepared to close the bar at around 9am, they suggested he withdraw cash from a nearby ATM. Ms Kallayanee said staff followed him outside after becoming suspicious, as he repeatedly approached his black Honda Civic, registered in Prachuap Khiri Khan, appearing ready to leave without paying.

During the confrontation, Mr Douglas Robin Barker, 74, an American national and former New York police officer who was visiting the area with his wife, attempted to intervene and recorded video footage. He was struck on the left side of the head, causing him to stagger and fall to the ground.

image.jpeg

Ms Kallayanee then tried to block the suspect from entering his car and was struck in the face, knocking her to the ground. A scuffle followed, during which two male staff members suffered facial and arm injuries and the suspect’s wallet was briefly taken from inside the vehicle.

Witnesses said the situation escalated rapidly before the suspect managed to re-enter his car and drive away at speed. Police later advised all injured parties to seek medical treatment and to submit detailed statements at the police station.

Subsequent checks identified Mr Osvaldo as a well-known local professional striker who has played for several Thai League clubs. Local media reported that he had been unveiled just three days earlier as a new signing for Udon United, competing in Thai League 3, with ambitions of promotion to Thai League 2. Matichon reported that police investigators are continuing to gather evidence and legal action is expected once all complaints and medical reports are formally submitted.

i do not suppose he will be getting on the team to play here in Thailand. A little hard since his Visa will most likely be revoked for this. All over a measly 5000 baht bill.. What an idiot.

Refusing to pay his bar bill, striking a 74-year-old retired NYC police officer, and striking the bar owner.  Not a good look that his club would like for one of its foreign players.  He may have a very short stay with this club and Thailand.

Why did the American cop aged 74 and his wife get involved?

Maybe trying to stop the Brazilian from being beaten by a gang of Thais...who knows, we weren't there, so shouldn't form opinions....though some have/will.

The only time you should intervene is if a person clearly can't defend themself and neeeds help *AND* you are capable of actually subduing the person harming them.

Otherwise, get as far from the fight as you can.  Why risk being harmed yourself?

Instead film the action from a safe distance. Then you can provide the police with video evidence and you can make money by posting the video online.

UPDATE
Brazilian Udon United Striker Surrenders Over Bar Assault Case

image.jpeg

Pictures courtesy of Daily News

Brazilian footballer Osvaldo Dos Santos Neto, known as “Neto,” a striker for Udon United, surrendered to police in Udon Thani on 16 December 2025 over an alleged assault and failure to pay a bar bill, expressing remorse and apologising to those involved. The incident, which occurred the previous day, attracted nationwide attention due to Neto’s profile in Thai football. Police confirmed he cooperated with investigators and admitted wrongdoing, while the complainants declined immediate reconciliation.

The case stems from an incident on the morning of 15 December 2025 at a bar and restaurant in Samphanthamit Soi, within Udon Thani municipality. Police said Neto, aged 42 and a Brazilian national, allegedly consumed beer and ordered drinks for staff before refusing to pay the full bill and becoming involved in a physical altercation. An altercation followed with the shop owner, staff and a foreign national later identified as a former New York police officer, after which Neto reportedly drove away from the scene.

On 16 December 2025, Neto was escorted to Mueang Udon Thani Police Station by Pol Capt Pitipong Thinwichai and Pol Sub Lt Preeda Missatham of the Tourist Police Bureau. He met Pol Lt Naratep Thongjiam, Deputy Investigation Inspector, to give a formal statement regarding the alleged non-payment and assault. A fellow footballer, Phuchapong Namsithan, aged 26 from Maha Sarakham province, accompanied him and assisted with Thai-language communication.

Earlier the same day, the shop owner, Kanyanee Kaewnok, aged 29 and two staff members had given statements to investigators. As they exited the interview room, Neto stood, performed a wai, and verbally apologised, but they did not stop to engage and left without comment. Kanyanee told reporters only that mediation would be scheduled later and that she would speak again at a future time.

Neto told police he drank five to six large bottles of beer and was surprised when the bill totalled 5,060 baht, which he felt was expensive. He said he attempted to pay by scanning a banking application, but the transfer failed due to an application problem, leading to an argument. He admitted to assaulting another foreign man, stating he did not know the individual was a former police officer, and said, “I accept everything and apologise from my heart… sorry to all Thai people.”

Phuchapong said Neto had trained in Udon Thani for about two weeks and had only been officially unveiled by Udon United a few days earlier. After learning of the problem at about 6pm on 15 December, he advised Neto to surrender and coordinated with tourist police. He said Neto was deeply worried and wanted the matter resolved as quickly as possible.

Daily News reported that Udon United confirmed it was aware of the reports but had not yet spoken directly to Neto. A club coordinator said management had not met to decide on any disciplinary action and would provide further information after internal discussions.

• The complainants declined immediate reconciliation, with mediation expected at a later date.

Witnesses said “re-enter his car and drive away at speed.”

Looking at the video, it is hardly what I expected to see him sedately pulling away.

One way to introduce yourself to your new employers and bring immediate loss of face to the team for his drunken behaviour. It’ll probably be his shortest contract in his career. At 42 years old he won’t get many further offers especially as you can call his career mediocre at best. Maybe time he goes back to Brazil and embarrasses himself there as a washed up has been.

I think a 42yo Brazo footballer playing league 3 in Thailand is the definition of washed up 🙂 the 5k bill would probably be his weekly wage

Maybe he's a silent partner in owning the bar.

They should add DUI to the charges as well. His bar tab alone would justify it.

That car he was driving, probably a loan car, part of the deal. It's now been customised, it got a proper kicking. I'd say she'll have to go to the panel shop before he hands it back.

I feel sorry for the woman wearing blue jeans, at the end of the video, she wanted to crack that Brazilian over the head with her folder. 😞

transfer failed due to an application problem

We're talking about a 5,100 baht bill. A Thai bank app may have various maximum transfer levels generally from my experience start at 30,000B or more set by the initial app activation. I haven't seen a lower limitation unless the account balance was less than 5,100B. Otherwise, using the app the user simply resets the limitation to as high as the app for the kind of transaction allows.

The accused more likely forgot his bank numerical code that would block access to the app for any purpose.

   Was the bill padded ?

If so, then he was right not to pay
