Two men tied to the Bondi shootings in Sydney were confirmed by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to have stayed in the Philippines for nearly a month last November. Sajid Akram, an Indian national, and his son Naveed Akram, an Indian-Australian, arrived on November 1, 2025, from Sydney. Their stay concluded on November 28, with the duo departing from Manila to Sydney.

The shooting at Bondi Beach occurred during a Jewish Hanukkah event on December 14, resulting in 16 fatalities. Sajid Akram was killed by authorities, while his son Naveed was hospitalized following the attack. Reports indicated that two Islamic State flags were discovered in the gunmen's vehicle, raising concerns about possible extremist motivations.

BI Spokesperson Dana Sandoval confirmed the Akram's itinerary, stating they traveled without companions and listed Davao as their final Philippine destination. This stopover has prompted Australian investigators to delve deeper into their activities during their stay. The circumstances of their visit are now part of an ongoing investigation by authorities looking to uncover a potential connection to extremist groups.

Looking forward, authorities are focusing on Naveed Akram, who remains under police supervision in the hospital. Australian police are conducting thorough inquiries into their alleged motives and connections. Efforts are also being intensified to trace any international links that could provide further insight into the shooting incident at Bondi, reported Manila Bulletin.

Key Takeaways

  • Two suspects in the Bondi shootings stayed in the Philippines for a month.
