The tourism sector in Trat, Thailand, is recovering following assurances from security officials regarding safety. Transport services are fully operational, and year-end activities are set to welcome visitors, according to local tourism authorities.

The region saw a positive change after the Royal Thai Marine Task Force regained control of previously affected areas. The lifting of a curfew last Tuesday has further bolstered confidence, particularly on the islands of Koh Chang, Koh Mak, and Koh Kood. Though some areas like parts of Khlong Yai and Bo Rai districts remain restricted, these zones do not generally affect major tourist spots.

Despite the Ban Hat Lek border checkpoint closure since July, nearby beaches and tourism services have continued to operate, signifying a return to normalcy. Korakot Opas, head of the TAT Trat Office, noted that earlier uncertainty had led to tourist cancellations, but arrivals, especially from abroad, are recovering following safety reassurances.

Currently, tourist numbers are down by 25%, but transport remains consistent. Bangkok Airways maintains three daily flights between Bangkok and Trat, and ferries to key islands operate regularly. Tourism activities, including special Christmas and New Year promotions with unique local gifts and food coupons, are planned to attract visitors.

Ferry services never ceased during the unrest, ensuring over 14 trips daily to tourist spots. Boonsiri Ferry Company reports a rise in bookings post-curfew, with expectations for normal visitor levels by year-end. Hotel operators, while still wary, have also noticed an improvement in foreign bookings, especially on Koh Kood, bolstering hopes for a prosperous year-end season.

Commander Capt Thammanoon Wanna confirmed that evacuees from Khlong Yai and Bo Rai can return home, as no current security threats exist. This development has further supported the optimistic outlook for Trat's tourism recovery, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • Trat's tourism is reviving with safety assurances, lifting prior curfews.
  • Tourist arrivals are recovering, aided by consistent transport services.
  • Year-end celebrations are planned, signaling a positive outlook.

Hat Lek checkpoint being closed would only affect those coming from cambodia.   Beaches operate very well without humans getting involved, better in fact

Well throughout covid many airlines were flying empty planes around the world, something about keeping their slots open

Normally  most of these special promotions are in fact compulsory ! and even without any prior knowledge I can guarantee the "local gifts" will  be cheap tacky crap

Food coupons lol probably tear of pages from a ration book
