A 63-year-old carpenter was beaten to death while working at a makeshift home workshop in Nakhon Sawan province, after the partner of the woman who hired him allegedly attacked him in a drunken rage. The incident occurred late on 21 December in Moo 4, Sala Daeng subdistrict, Krok Phra district, causing shock in the local community and prompting a swift police response.

Police identified the deceased as Mr Somkiat, 63, who had been hired to build a wooden table at a tin-roofed shelter. The suspect, Mr Samnao, 48, the boyfriend of the hirer, was detained at the scene in a heavily intoxicated state and later charged with assault causing death.

According to police, officers from Krok Phra Police Station were alerted at 4.5Opm on 21 December. Pol Lt Th Supanat Phopphueng, an investigating officer, led a team including hospital doctors and rescue volunteers to the scene, where Mr Somkiat was found dead on the ground with visible bruising consistent with a violent assault.

Ms Waraporn, 49, told police she had hired Mr Somkiat to make a table using leftover timber at her shelter because her boyfriend had refused to do the work. She said Mr Samnao, who works as a lorry driver, returned home drunk on white liquor and became angry and jealous upon seeing the carpenter.

She stated that Mr Samnao rose from a wooden bench and attacked Mr Somkiat by kicking him and striking him with his knee in the abdomen until he fell. He then allegedly delivered a forceful kick to the carpenter’s chin, causing him to die at the scene.

Ms Waraporn added that she works as a general labourer and that the couple had argued previously over jealousy and Mr Samnao’s drinking. She said the dispute earlier that day centred on his refusal to make the table and his continued intoxication, which led her to hire Mr Somkiat instead.

Pol Lt Th Supanat said the suspect was incoherent during questioning due to intoxication. Initial investigations suggest the motive was jealousy combined with alcohol impairment, although a drug test later confirmed no illegal substances were found in the suspect’s system.

Matichon reported that police have charged Mr Samnao with causing bodily harm resulting in death. He has been taken into custody, and investigators plan to conduct a crime reenactment as part of the evidence-gathering process before proceeding under legal procedures.
