On Christmas Day, a shooting in Barangay Sawang Calero, Cebu, left two men dead. Melber Alicabo, 40, and his half-brother, Romel Fernandez, 36, were fatally shot by neighbors Eric and Aljun Espina. The deadly incident took place during Merlinda Fernandez's birth anniversary, adding to the family's grief.

The confrontation was reportedly a revenge attack, as Alicabo was previously imprisoned for shooting a relative of the suspects. Upon release, the threat of retaliation materialized when Eric and Aljun reportedly broke into the victims' home. Eric allegedly shot Alicabo, and Romel was subsequently killed when he came to investigate the disturbance.

Eric Espina was arrested four hours after the shooting, and authorities recovered the alleged firearm used. Police operations continue to apprehend Aljun Espina, who remains at large. Police Col. George Ylanan commended the swift response from the Sawang Calero Police Station, highlighting the urgency of the ongoing manhunt for Aljun.

Moving forward, charges against Eric Espina are being prepared, while police intensify efforts to locate Aljun. The event underscores ongoing challenges in managing personal vendettas and gun violence in local communities. Authorities aim to ensure justice for the victims while maintaining public safety during the holiday season, reported Manila Bulletin.
