China has extended an offer of 20 million yuan to aid both Thailand and Cambodia in repairing war damage during a current ceasefire. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul mentioned that Thailand's acceptance of the offer will be considered after Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow’s review upon his return. The ceasefire, which began recently, has led to a calm situation along the Thai-Cambodian border, ending on December 30 at noon.

Anutin, speaking from Don Mueang’s military airport before traveling to border provinces, noted the absence of drone activity and reduced hostilities. Discussions between Foreign Minister Sihasak and China's Wang Yi reportedly progressed well, with Sihasak now engaging in dialogue with Cambodian officials. An offer from China to support Cambodia was similarly extended to Thailand, countering social media claims questioning China's impartiality.

While Thailand evaluates China's aid offer, Anutin stressed the need for relying on confirmed sources over speculative social media commentary. The potential conditions for receiving the aid were not specified, pending a detailed discussion upon Sihasak's return. Anutin deferred commenting on the immediate outcomes of Sihasak’s talks, anticipating that future steps would be addressed, focusing initially on stabilizing peace.

Thailand maintains reduced diplomatic relations with only essential embassy staff, following procedures for any changes. The current priority is sustaining the ceasefire through its 72-hour duration. Meanwhile, evacuees are returning to safe areas, with a significant reduction in numbers, particularly from Buri Ram where around 2,000 remain out of nearly 20,000, reported The Nation.

Key Takeaways

  • China offers 20 million yuan to both Thailand and Cambodia for war damage.
  • Thai acceptance of aid awaits Foreign Minister Sihasak's discussions and return.
  • Ceasefire observed along the border, with evacuees gradually returning.

Why need Thailand aid from China because of the war?? Thailand has enough money and there is no need to get a reward for a war.. Unless of course Thailand is selling it soul to China....Or is the cease fire only to get this money, as in Thailand everything is money or money related

Fascinating how China offers this rather poultry sum, considering the fact that they've been supplying advanced weapons to Cambodia throughout the entire conflict.

Is the money expected to be spent on replacing Chinese weapons?
