I've been reading about getting visas in thailand and i have some questions in mind. I understand that overstaying in Thailand will result in 500 baht fine a day up to a maximum of 20k bahts. I was wondering if a criminal in another country flee to Thailand and stayed in thailand for example 2-3 yrs and decided to turn himself and return to his country. I guess the international police (interpol) should have been notified.

My questions are

1) Will he be charged any other offence in Thailand other than overstaying since he is a wanted criminal in his country?

2) Will he be stopped at the airport since interpol has been notified?

3) Can he extend his visa in thai in this case?

it will be good if someone can point out there are flaws in the system. In my country, one can easily bypass the system and leave the country, i was wondering if this applies to thai as well

You’re talking about a fugitive criminal for whom an international arrest warrant has been issued and who chooses to return to his home country in order to surrender to police. My best guesses on your questions are these:

1) No.

2) Yes. Arrest, detention, sentencing for overstay, extradition or deportation.

3) No.

Please note that the maximum penalty under Thai law for overstaying is a fine of 20,000 Baht or 2 years imprisonment or both.
