Speedboat Operator to Face Charges After Fatal Phi Phi Crash

An update from Thailand’s Marine Department has confirmed that a fatal collision between a speedboat and a fishing vessel near Phi Phi Island has been attributed to negligence by the speedboat operator, resulting in the death of one foreign tourist. The incident occurred at about 9.30am on 11 January 2026 and led to the speedboat sinking, with all passengers and crew rescued from the water. One passenger later died from injuries sustained in the crash and was confirmed to be a Russian tourist.
