A police officer in Nakhon Si Thammarat has been dismissed following his involvement in the escape of a detained drug suspect. Police Sergeant Major Teerawat Meesichan allegedly released Ekkaluck Datepalit, who was arrested for possession with intent to sell narcotics, under dubious circumstances, leading to the suspect's escape.

Ekkaluck was in custody at Tung Yai Police Station since January 10, awaiting legal proceedings. However, he managed to escape without any signs of forced entry. CCTV footage revealed that Officer Teerawat opened the detention door, escorted Ekkaluck to his vehicle, and drove him away.

Teerawat was arrested soon after the escape, admitting he helped the suspect but claimed he was deceived. He stated that Ekkaluck, a longtime friend, pleaded for temporary release to see his family, exploiting Teerawat's sympathy. Once at his home, Ekkaluck fled, remaining at large since the incident.

Authorities have already dismissed Teerawat from service, citing clear evidence against him. Further disciplinary and legal actions are expected as investigations proceed. This incident echoes past escapes, including cases in Nakhon Ratchasima and Bangkok, highlighting ongoing security challenges, reported The Thaiger.
