Brussels set to sign 'mother of all deals' with India

It's certainly not the only significant aspect of this deal.

As concerns immigration, It's about controlled immigration. Similar to Canada's policy. It facilitates immigration if there is a match between the applicants and the jobs offered (see other posts and links). For example, Europe needs IT specialists and there aren't enough. India can provide some of the missing resources.

Many people in Canada are unhappy about immigration from India. The political leaders love imagination, but the people do not. Frankly, from experience, IT talent from India isn't all that talented. Maybe 5 percent are talented; the rest are not.

Rising anti-Indian sentiment in Canada is fueled by a combination of economic pressures, demographic shifts, and systemic concerns. Between 2013 and 2023, Indian immigration to Canada surged from 32,828 to 139,715, making India the leading source of immigrants. This rapid influx—particularly concentrated in cities like Toronto (Brampton) and Vancouver (Surrey)—has intensified public frustration amid a housing crisis, rising living costs, and a tight job market.

That looks like uncontrolled immigration, similar to what the Conservatives did in recent years in the UK.

This deal is about controlled immigration, matching the market's needs. The EU has a shortage of skilled labour, partly due to low birth rates amongst its citizens

Once the people from India become involved, it will likely become chaotic. Just look at how things have played out in the USA and Canada. Let's revisit this in five years so I can say, "I told you so."
