A 25-year-old Laotian housemaid, Bua Sihawong, is suspected of murdering her 79-year-old employer, Somsawat Songsamphan, in Bangkok’s Bueng Kum district. The crime was reported by a neighbor after observing unusual circumstances at Somsawat's home. Following the murder on January 21, Bua allegedly fled to Laos, crossing the border illegally.

Somsawat, a former teacher, lived alone except for Bua, who began working for her about a year ago. Reportedly, Somsawat intended to replace Bua, citing her laziness. Tensions escalated after Bua was dismissed following an argument, potentially prompting the deadly attack. Police discovered evidence indicative of a violent struggle and multiple injuries on Somsawat's body.

Neighbor Sumalee Chaikong, who regularly assisted Somsawat, noticed something was wrong when Somsawat failed to perform her usual morning routine. This prompted Sumalee to check the house, where she found Somsawat's lifeless body. CCTV footage revealed Bua traveling to Mo Chit Bus Terminal, then to Ubon Ratchathani, before crossing into Laos.

Authorities suggest Bua's resentment over job loss and a refused loan request could be motives. Bua's mental health issues are also under investigation as a contributing factor. Despite 40,000 baht in cash being found untouched, police continue to assess if any theft occurred. The lack of immediate signs of robbery adds complexity to the case.

Efforts are ongoing to locate Bua and discuss her involvement in the incident. Police are working with international law enforcement to secure Bua's return to Thailand. The case highlights cross-border challenges in criminal investigations, reported The Thaiger.
