The Philippine Bureau of Immigration has detained a Russian vlogger, Nikita Chekhov, 21, following his viral videos threatening to deliberately spread HIV. Chekhov was apprehended in a Quezon City condominium after his alarming posts drew significant online attention. The content, deemed "rage bait," was posted soon after his arrival from Shanghai on January 15, causing fear among the public and leading to swift action by authorities.

Chekhov's videos were recorded at Bonifacio High Street in Taguig, where he claimed intentions of spreading the virus. Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado emphasized the severity of such content, stating it irresponsibly induces public panic. Viado warned that foreign nationals who engage in alarming behavior or disrespect local communities would face deportation.

The arrest is part of a broader crackdown on foreign content creators engaging in disruptive behavior. Earlier actions include the deportation of Russian vlogger Vitaly Zdorovetskiy for disruptive acts and the arrest of Estonian YouTuber Siim Roosipuu in Dumaguete City for inappropriate content. Chekhov's case is under investigation, with deportation proceedings a potential outcome.

Looking forward, authorities are expected to intensify their scrutiny on foreign nationals creating controversial content within the Philippines. The case highlights ongoing efforts to maintain public order and the country’s stance against those undermining local communities through harmful online behavior, reported Philstar.
