Well, well, lets see what comes of it. This was actually one of my great hopes that with the coup the situation in the south would change, but after a few initial gestures it seemed like so many of the targets of the junta missed or even worsened. I am still basically waiting for that bomb to explode here in Phuket that will kill the coming high season...

PM views cooperation will help restore peace in restive South

The Prime Minister, Gen. Surayud Chulanont (สุรยุทธ์ จุลานนท์), says full cooperation from all sides will help solve the southern unrest.

After witnessing the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Education between Thai and Malaysian Education Ministers, Gen. Surayud traveled to the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to meet Thai businessmen, students and community members who are residing in Malaysia. The Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation to the Thai Ambassador to Malaysia, Mr. Piyawat Niyomrerks (ปิยวัฒน์ นิยมฤกษ์), for his warm hospitality.

The Prime Minister says the purpose of his official visit to Malaysia is to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries. However, he does not expect the problem to be resolved in a short period of time since many factors will come into play.

Gen. Surayud says he is planning to work in the education sector after he ended his term.
