Watering

Featured Replies

I was wondering the best way to feed 13 plants- mangos, bananas,& 2 vegetable plants on the top 2 nahn & have 54 plumeria

trees in the other 2 rai.

I originally was going to put in 20 mm. black hose(made for feed tubing) & run a rain bird drip system to the plants & trees.

Can I just drill small holes to feed the water to each of the plants or trees instead of using individual drip lines. . All I need it to do is deliver water to the new plants & trees till rainy season comes. Most trees & plants were selected for low water consumption & not needing much water after planting?

I have put a big well on property & have a pump that puts out 32 liters of water per minute, If I drill 1/4 inch holes & run 2 separate lines 1 for the top 13 plants & the other for the 54 plumerias, will this be adequate?

it doesn't matter if it is real pretty just effective.

Thanks again for all the help!!!!

Hi.

You need to look at what kind of pressure your pump gives, 32L/m is not going to be enough with 1/4" holes.

I have limited knowledge of drip, but I "think" Tilipia maybe right, so maybe make the holes smaller, or you may have to put some vlaves(taps) so you only irrigate say 25% at any one time.

Remember that you need a pretty mickey smint filter when you using drip, as I believe that its fruatrating when they block up!!

The 1/4 inch holes are big enough so that a homemade cloth filter should be adequate..be sure to make the end cap on the line removable so you can purge... I don't think pressure will be a problem....the problem will be to get the same flow through each hole. The first hole in the set will emit more water than the last all things being equal....if the set is on a slope the lowest holes will emit the most water. Try to make a set level and start with smaller holes and then enlarge the ones that are not flowing enough...or drill extra holes at low flow locations...if you don't have a cordless drill then you can take a propane tank to the field and heat up a piece of small rebar to melt the holes in. I have heard that it is harder than you think to get equal volumes everywhere in a system like this...I've never tried it myself. On the other hand if you have alot of water then you can just overwater in some places to get enough water everywhere...good luck.
