A 37-year-old man was killed after being struck by a train in Phatthalung province on 23 January, after he disappeared from a railway station while his mother briefly went to the toilet. The incident occurred at around 1.40pm on railway tracks in Moo 1, Tha Maduea subdistrict, Bang Kaeo district, about one kilometre from Bang Kaeo railway station. Police and rescue workers attended the scene after reports that a train had hit a person, finding the victim dead on the tracks.

The deceased was identified as Mr Charan, aged 37, a resident of Ban Bo Nang Chee in Bang Kaeo district, Phatthalung. His body had been severely mutilated by the impact, with limbs torn apart and scattered near the railway line. The body was found face down on the tracks, indicating he had been directly struck by the train.

According to police, Mr Charan had travelled by train earlier that day with his mother, Mrs Boonying, from Khuan Phra in Pak Phayun district to Bang Kaeo railway station. The purpose of the journey was for him to see a doctor and collect medication at Bang Kaeo Hospital. After completing the hospital visit, the pair returned to the station to wait for a train home.

Mrs Boonying told officers that her son had mental health issues but was still able to work as a hired rubber tapper. While waiting at the station, she left him seated at the front of the station building while she went to use the toilet. When she returned a few minutes later, he was no longer there, prompting concern and a search.

She later learned that her son had been struck and killed by a train, causing her profound shock. The train involved was identified as local train number 447, which operates on the Surat Thani–Sungai Kolok route. After the collision, the train driver contacted Bang Kaeo railway station and the station master notified authorities to investigate.

Matichon reported that the police said the train driver followed standard procedures after the incident. Officers from Bang Kaeo Police Station are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the victim being on the tracks. The case is being handled in accordance with legal procedures and the body has been released for further arrangements.

That does not clarify if what direction he was walking away or whether the train stopped at his station.
