An airport staff member was detained after making a bomb-related joke at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Monday, January 26. The Philippine National Police (PNP) Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP) reported that during a manual inspection, a station loader jokingly yelled, "OH… AYAN MAY BOMBA DYAN!" causing alarm among on-duty security personnel. The staff member is now under custody at NAIA Police Station 3, and a criminal complaint is being prepared.

The incident raised concerns about airport security, leading officials to notify supervisory officers immediately. The PNP Aviation Security Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit conducted clearing and sniffing operations, confirming no explosive devices were found. The airport's security protocols emphasize that jokes about explosives are taken seriously, given their potential to cause panic.

PBGen Dionisio B. Bartolome Jr., Director of PNP AVSEGROUP, reminded the public of the legal consequences of making jokes about explosives, urging caution with words that could endanger public safety. "Any form of joke involving bombs or explosives will be dealt with accordingly," he stated, emphasizing the importance of responsibility and mindfulness.

Moving forward, authorities will continue to enforce strict measures to maintain security at airports. The incident serves as a reminder of the seriousness with which security threats, however jokingly intended, are regarded in public spaces. Additional security protocols may be reviewed to prevent similar incidents, reported Balita
