A man claimed he was attacked with a scissors by his girlfriend’s former boyfriend. During the clash, he grabbed the scissors from his attacker and stabbed him to death. He was frightened and ran away. Later, he surrendered to the police and asked for justice, claiming self defense.

On 20 August 2007, at 6 PM, Mr. Phaisan Chuenkut (27) from Nonthaburi Province was stabbed in his chest with a pair of scissors and fatally injured. His former girlfriend, Miss Ramphai Moongaen (27), from Mahasarakam Province, reportedly, hailed a “songteau” (mini truck) to bring him to the hospital. Mr. Phaisan did not survive and was dead on arrival at the hospital. The incident happened in front of Charn Thong Place, Pattaya Third Road, Chonburi. Initially, Miss Ramphai, the ex-girl friend of Mr. Phaisan denied knowing who had killed her ex-boyfriend. Police were dubious of her story and brought her in for further questioning. They assumed that the dispute involved jealousy on the part of the former and present boyfriends.

Later, at 8:30 PM, police received a phone call from Mr. Thawanon Thinwong, nickname "Yok" (24), who was Miss Ramphai’s current boyfriend. He confessed to killing Mr. Phaisan. He agreed to surrender on Soi Sukhumvit 50, in the South Pattaya area. Police met Mr. Thawanon at the designated place and noticed a severe cut on his lips, about ten centimeters long. There were also cuts and bruises on his neck, as well. Police confiscated a pair of scissors as evidence and brought Mr. Thawanon to the hospital to have his wounds attended to. He was then detained for further questioning.

Mr. Thawanon told police that he was having a cigarette in front of his room, with his girlfriend, on Soi Angket, adjacent to Pattaya Stadium. Suddenly, Mr. Phaisan arrived on a motorbike and appeared to be drunk. Mr. Thawanon and Mr. Phaisan had never met before. Mr. Phaisan looked at him, in a hostile manner, and asked Miss Ramphai, "Is this your new husband?"

Mr. Phaisan, immediately pulled out a scissors, punched Mr. Thawanon in the face and stabbed him with the scissors on his lips. Mr. Thawanon attempted to run away, but Mr. Phaisan grabbed him and stabbed him on his neck.

He had no choice but to defend himself. He managed to seize the scissors and stabbed Mr. Phaisan in the chest. Mr.Phaisan collapsed to the ground, bleeding profusely. Mr. Thawanon was so frightened that he might have killed Mr. Phaisan, that he called a baht bus to take Mr. Phaisan to the hospital. However, Mr. Phaisan died on the way to the hospital. Mr. Thawanon panicked and ran away.. After he regained his composure, he decided to turn himself in to the police. As he is claiming self defense, he is hoping to be exonerated.

Police took statements from Mr. Thawanon and Miss Ranphai. Mr. Thawanon was charged with killing Mr. Phaisan and will have to mount his defense in the courts.
