The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) are preparing to review minimum wage rates for the 2026-2027 cycle, according to the National Wages and Productivity Commission. Grace Badilla, director of NWPC Policy and Research Service, stated that this review aligns with existing mandates that require ongoing monitoring of socioeconomic conditions. The review process is expected to start again in Metro Manila around June or July this year, with the intent to assess and adjust wage orders as necessary.

Current reviews are already underway in various regions, following the most recent wage order adjustments in 2025. These adjustments benefited approximately 4.5 million minimum wage earners across 14 regions, with wage increases ranging from P20 to P100. Some regions were exempted from these adjustments, while others, including Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Calabarzon and Mimaropa, implemented new wage orders based on local economic conditions.

The highest daily minimum wage for private sector workers in the National Capital Region increased from P658 to P695 as part of the 2025 adjustments. The impact of these adjustments has been considered substantial, affecting a significant portion of the minimum wage workforce. Experts and policymakers are closely observing these adjustments to determine future economic influences and stability.

As the next review cycle approaches, stakeholders anticipate further evaluations of current economic conditions and possible future adjustments. The RTWPBs' ongoing assessments aim to balance economic growth with fair compensation across various regions. These reviews are crucial for ensuring that wage policies keep pace with inflation and cost of living changes, reported Philstar.
