A 22-year-old man has been arrested after fatally stabbing his mother at their home in Phra Pradaeng district, Samut Prakan, following mounting pressure over household finances. The victim later died in hospital from severe knife wounds sustained during the attack on 5 February 2026. Police said the suspect had concealed the fact that he had resigned from his job and lied to his mother about still being employed.

The incident occurred at a single-storey wooden house in Soi Suksawat 78, Moo 8, Bang Chak subdistrict, Phra Pradaeng. Police and rescue workers found Ms Nokkaew Takimnok, 44, lying in a pool of blood with critical injuries to her right collarbone, chest and neck, including a wound which responders described as resembling a throat slash. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from her injuries.

The suspect, Mr Thapakon Takimnok, 22, the victim’s biological son, was restrained at the scene by neighbours and his stepfather, Mr Somsak Deeruacharoen, 40. A black machete, approximately one foot long, believed to be the weapon used, was recovered. Mr Somsak said the family had questioned Mr Thapakon about his salary, which was usually paid at the end of each month but had not appeared by 5 February.

According to Mr Somsak, the suspect claimed his salary had not yet been paid, prompting suspicion from the family. Attempts were made to contact the company by phone and Line messaging, but there was no response. The family then planned to travel to the workplace to ask directly about the salary, when screams were heard from inside the house.

Mr Somsak told police he ran inside to find Ms Nokkaew clutching her chest with blood covering her clothes, while Mr Thapakon was attacking her. With help from neighbours, he restrained the suspect before calling police and rescue services. Neighbours described the family as well behaved and said the suspect had never previously caused trouble in the area.

Pol Col Apichat Thongpae, superintendent of Phra Pradaeng Police Station, said the motive was pressure and stress. He confirmed Mr Thapakon had resigned from his job about one month earlier, lied to his mother about still working, and was unable to provide money for household expenses.

SaimNews reported that police found no history of drug use, and urine tests showed no illegal substances in his system. Mr Thapakon remains in custody and police said he will be charged with killing a parent, an offence punishable by death under Thai law.
