The Philippine National Police (PNP) has dismissed an entire police unit in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region over allegations of hazing newly graduated recruits. More than 70 police personnel from Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Mobile Force Battalion 14B were removed from their duties on February 9, confirmed PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño. Their roles were filled by members of Battalion 14A to ensure continuity and stability in the region.

The alleged hazing occurred on February 6, just after the graduates completed their Basic Internal Security Operations Course. Instead of transitioning to assignments in Lamitan, Basilan, the recruits were reportedly subjected to violent initiation practices. One initial complaint led to 18 more formal reports, prompting a significant investigation that now includes 110 complainants. Medical examinations for the victims are ongoing, and further involvement by other staff is suspected.

In line with a zero-tolerance policy, the entire battalion is undergoing scrutiny at the PRO-BAR headquarters in Maguindanao del Norte. The investigation will determine if charges under the Anti-Hazing Act will be filed. The Police Regional Office emphasized that negligent supervisors could face administrative penalties, while direct participants in the hazing will face charges. This underscores the PNP's commitment to maintaining integrity and discipline within the force.

Future steps include a thorough investigation to identify all individuals involved and to hold them accountable under the law. The PNP has vowed to uphold its standards and ensure that such acts of violence are not repeated, aiming to restore trust and order within the police force, reported Philstar.
