Two Chinese nationals, Jucan Hong and Qingzhuang Ke, were arrested for falsely claiming Filipino citizenship. These operations were carried out by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Legazpi City and Tagum City. BI Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado announced the arrests, underscoring the seriousness of identity fraud.

The arrests followed investigations by the BI’s Intelligence Division. Hong allegedly acquired government IDs, including a driver's license, while posing as a Filipino for business activities. Meanwhile, Ke, using a fake identity as Jimmy Reyes, obtained a birth certificate under a fictitious name, leading to the procurement of multiple IDs and business operations in the Philippines.

Viado emphasized that such acts manipulate systems and evade laws. Misrepresentation to gain privileges will meet strict legal consequences, including arrest and deportation. The Commissioner’s statement reflects the Philippine government's stance on safeguarding national integrity.

Moving forward, both Hong and Ke are in BI's custody, facing deportation processes. The BI continues to scrutinize and act against fraudulent identity claims to prevent misuse of privileges meant for Philippine citizens. These cases reinforce ongoing efforts to tackle identity fraud, reported Manila Bulletin.

Key Takeaways

  • Two Chinese nationals were arrested for pretending to be Filipinos.

  • Both individuals used fake identities to acquire IDs and run businesses.

  • They are now detained by the BI, awaiting deportation proceedings.
