The reward for information leading to the capture of fugitive tycoon Atong Ang has been increased to PHP 20 million, announced Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla on February 12. This update was made at a press conference, with funds sourced from the confidential budgets of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Philippine National Police. The raised bounty aims to expedite Ang's arrest amid ongoing efforts to locate him.

Since January 15, when the initial bounty was set at PHP 10 million, Ang has been evading arrest following charges linked to the disappearance of several sabungeros, reported missing since 2021. Multiple arrest warrants have been issued, beginning with the Sta. Cruz, Laguna Regional Trial Court on January 13, where Ang was the only one of his co-accused not apprehended.

Authorities initially speculated Ang might have fled to Cambodia, but Justice Secretary Frederick Vida confirmed on February 11 that intelligence indicates he remains in the Philippines. Vida stated, "Our records show that he is still here. Based on intelligence, there are indications that he’s still around."

In addition to the Sta. Cruz court order, two other Region IV-A courts have issued warrants: one from the Lipa Regional Trial Court on January 15, followed by another from the San Pablo RTC Branch 29 on February 6. Ang faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, serious illegal detention, and kidnapping with homicide. All are non-bailable offenses, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Authorities continue their manhunt for Ang, relying heavily on public cooperation and the new incentive to secure his arrest. The increased reward reflects the urgency of the case and the government’s commitment to resolving it, reported Philstar.

Key Takeaways
