Around 3,000 retired public school teachers in Manila are set to receive their full-year Old Age Sustenance Allowance (OASA) for 2025 after Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso approved an P18 million budget. The allowance, under Ordinance No. 7977, grants qualified retired teachers aged 70 and above P500 per month, totaling P6,000 annually, in recognition of their service.

Initially, only P9 million was requested for a six-month allowance. However, Mayor Domagoso extended the release to the full year, authorizing the complete disbursement of P18 million. He confirmed the release order was signed on February 13, and funds distribution will occur from February 16 to 20, describing this timing as a gesture of appreciation for the teachers.

Mayor Domagoso credited the city's improving financial status for enabling the full-year payment and noted contributions from the workforce and various departments. Speaking at the Manila Retired Teachers Association event, he expressed gratitude for the educators' role in shaping professionals, stating it shows respect for those who built the city's future.

The move signifies a broader commitment to fulfill ongoing obligations and serve those dedicated to Manila's public education. With funds prepared for distribution, the city aims to honor retired teachers who contributed significantly to education.

Looking ahead, Manila plans to maintain financial health to ensure continuity in meeting obligations to its citizens. The initiative highlights the importance of recognizing the efforts of those retired educators who have laid the foundation for the city's growth, reported Manila Bulletin.
