Residents of Barangay Lasang benefited from a medical mission led by Davao City second district Rep. Omar S. Duterte on February 25. The initiative provided free medical checkups, X-ray services, laboratory tests, and medicines to 200 residents who have limited access to healthcare facilities. Local leaders, including Barangay Chairman Allan Simo-ag, emphasized the importance of this event, highlighting the barangay's distance from medical services.

This effort is part of Rep. Duterte’s ongoing campaign to improve healthcare access for underserved communities. The program aims to make essential medical services more available and promote preventive care in areas where healthcare cost and accessibility are significant barriers. Following this event, similar missions are planned across other barangays in the city to ensure broader community impact.

In addition to healthcare services, Rep. Duterte distributed sacks of rice to six mosques in the second district as part of support efforts during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Local mosque leaders expressed gratitude, noting the distribution helps support families in need during this crucial time. These distributions are meant to alleviate burdens and extend the reach of the program.

Simultaneously, First district Rep. Paolo Duterte and Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II organized a humanitarian activity in Muslim communities within the first district. They distributed 216 sacks of rice and canned goods to seven mosques on February 21. The distribution is part of a larger initiative that plans to reach 41 more mosques with similar aid throughout the week, further extending community support across Davao City, reported Manila Bulletin.

Key Takeaways

  • The medical mission provided crucial healthcare services to remote residents.

  • Rice distribution supported Muslim communities during Ramadan.

  • More similar initiatives are planned to expand community impact.
