The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) clarified that Chinese nationals are not barred from playing at military-supervised golf courses, provided they obtain the necessary access clearance. This statement from Colonel Louie Dema-ala came amid rumors of a ban due to espionage concerns. Civilians of any nationality must secure clearance to enter military facilities, including golf courses.

These rumors surfaced following the arrest of three Filipino informants accused of leaking military information to Chinese contacts. Despite heightened security concerns, Colonel Dema-ala emphasized that military recreational facilities remain accessible to those with proper clearance. He confirmed that Chinese nationals continue to play golf at these courses, given they meet access requirements.

There are several military-managed golf courses where access is tightly controlled, including locations at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City, Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, and Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City. Each requires civilians to secure permission before entering. The process ensures that despite security issues, facilities like golf courses can be used responsibly by foreign nationals, including the Chinese.

As security situations develop, the military assures continued vigilance in its operations, balancing national security with recreational access. The AFP remains committed to its protocols, ensuring safety without unnecessarily restricting access to its recreational sites, reported Manila Bulletin.
