So Why did Trump Start this War?

Why he is now trying to declare victory and call it off is readily apparent: oil and the stock market. Trump saw oil approaching $120/bbl and Dow futures down 1200 pts pre-market on Monday and decided to make up a definition for “victory”, claim he had achieved it, and do it WHILE the markets were open (I’ll also guess his buddies and sons went long equity futures and short oil before Trump’s CBS interview.) .

Because he know that his conservative base who voted for him based on his promise NOT to get involved in foreign war, are totally PO'ed that he got involved into Iran. So now he can read the tea-leaves that Republicans are going to get slaughtered in the mid-terms. But Israel wanted the war so he was beholden to act. The war created the conditions for the closure of the Straits of Hormuz, which stops oil from flowing, which becomes a shock to the global economies including the US. And as Clinton's political strategist, James Carville, so aptly put - "It's The Economy Stupid!"
The war will be a major drag on the economy unless this is ended - like immediately. But Iran isn't going to stop unless they have iron-clad treaties that lift sanction and guarantee that neither the US or Israel will attach them again in the future. But Trump won't sign a treaty like that (nor will Congress ratify it - Israel will threaten to pull their AIPAC campaign funding) as the overthrow of Iran and the return of the Pahlavi Clan has been the strategic goal of the US since the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

So the end result? The war will continue and the Straits will remained closed, and most likely, the global economy suffers. And Trump will get the blame.

Well he has surrounded himself with those likely to be swayed by Israel: Witkoff, Kushner, Lutnick, Loomer, Miller, and Gruenbaum.

Of course, the Israelis could have all the dirt on Trump. Just to keep him in line.

First it was about nuclear deterrence but that argument was shredded by Trump's own admission that he had obliterated their capacity last year, then it was about regime change and then Trump realized that this was very unlikely so what is the current motive? Perhaps it is just about money.

Since it would be considered a conflict of interest even by Trump standards) so he has appointed his sons to invest in areas that he can influenced by his position and further enrich the family. Now it looks like that incredibly toxic family is getting into the munitions business. Which would be very appropriate for the war president.

Among dozens of companies competing for Pentagon contracts to supply attack drones, one stands out.

Powerus is flush with cash and ballooning in size as it buys up rivals and has one other advantage: It is partly owned by President Donald Trump’s two oldest sons.

The Trump family has drawn criticism for expanding its real estate business into foreign countries that are trying to curry favor with the president and for making billions of dollars off cryptocurrency ventures benefiting from his policies. Grabbing less attention are new ownership stakes in federal contractors providing everything from rocket parts and rare earth magnets to AI chips and computer hardware.

“It’s corruption,” said Kathleen Clark, a government ethics expert at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. “Government decision makers will feel pressure to use contract awards to enrich the president’s family.”

The latest Trump venture is hoping to win some of the $1.1 billion set aside by the Pentagon to build up a U.S. manufacturing base for armed drones now that the Trump administration put a ban on importing them from China.

Shortly after Trump’s reelection, 1789 Capital made Don Jr. a partner and then went on a buying spree of its own, investing in 25 companies in one year. It had made only six purchases in the two years prior, according to data provided by research firm Pitchbook. Most of its targets appear to be seeking federal contracts or taxpayer funds or have already won them.

Regime change was the plan, but Trump finds it easier to change plans than regimes. What began as a long-haul commitment to roll back decades of Islamic revolution has become a “short-term excursion” to neutralise Iran’s military capabilities.

Trump has not quite declared “mission accomplished”. He says he has won, but also that he has more winning to do. This is the familiar stage of rhetorical climbdown, indicating dawning awareness that a problem is more complicated than the president initially thought. Complexity resists his whim. It bores him.

Iran turns out to be unlike Venezuela, except in a superficial analysis as energy-exporting countries with a history of hostile relations with Washington. The model of regime decapitation and coercion that saw Nicolás Maduro kidnapped from Caracas and replaced with his compliant vice-president earlier this year whetted Trump’s appetite for an Iranian sequel. But the Islamic Republic has reserves of ideological and institutional resilience. It can also spook international markets by menacing trade in the Gulf.

The White House seems not to have anticipated the predictable economic repercussions of war in the Middle East – soaring oil prices, falling stock markets, disrupted supply chains feeding inflation and choking growth.

Flashing red lights on the financial dashboard were surely the prompt for Trump’s pledge to bring his military adventure to a swift conclusion. A tacit deal has come into view. Forget freedom. Iranians can still be repressed as long as shipping through the strait of Hormuz is unmolested.

Another push for regime change is possible, but no one should be surprised by retreat to lesser goals. This is the Trump method. It was the story of his “liberation day” tariffs, ramped all the way up, then dialled partway down to ease panic on global markets. It was the pattern with threats to annex Greenland, issued with maximum bellicosity, later softened under pressure from European allies.

It is hard to sustain that opinion with a clear-sighted appraisal of the people currently setting US policy, their erratic judgment, their scorn for international alliances, their contempt for any legal constraint on the president, their ideological orientation towards a far-right, Christian nationalist, white supremacist worldview. That is without also considering the possibility that Trump’s rambling, disjointed, semi-literate public pronouncements reflect pathological cognitive decline.

The Trump doctrine conflates the ego of the president with the security and prosperity of the state. It assumes that one man’s exercise of military power, unchecked by rule of law and without regard for economic consequence, redounds to greater US glory. It contains no concept of the origins of Trump’s power, because that would imply a debt to the past, to previous holders of his office, to the constitution, to democratic allies, to the history of welcoming migrants in search of the American dream and the economic dynamism they brought with them.

That is the central lie of the Maga project. Making Trump feel great is the undoing of American greatness. In arrogating power to himself, the president undermines the foundations of his country’s strength in the world and damages its allies. To define Britain’s national interest as loyalty to the White House administration is absurd when the US’s own national interest would most be served by regime change in Washington.

Iranian drones have now hit 4 THAAD systems, 2 fixed and 2 mobile units. To target that precisely---especially hitting the mobile system in Jordan that is used to protect Israel---takes satellites. Who might have those satellites?

Russia.

Trump was asked about "Why now?" re attacking Iran.

His answer, "Based on what Jared, Steve and Pete told me, now was the time."

So two real estate guys and a drunkard?

It sounds like the start of a bad joke.

Never mind the intel community. Never mind actual defense pros. Instead, put the United States into a war because your son-in-law, a RE buddy, and a drunkard former TV Talking Head says you should.

I think this goes to the heart of the problem - the complete corruption of Trump and his family. There is such a large list of 'deals' done to enrich himself and his family it's hard to keep up. It's crypto, it's World Liberty Finanace, it's $2 billion from the UAE, it's $400M planes, it's golf courses, hotels, nuclear fusion palnts, AI data centres, media, technology, drones and of course his hideous merchandising.

My only consolation in all of this is eventually he will be out of power and then the corruption probes will begin in earnest and I just hope he and his family get their comeuppence and all of them get jailed - unlikely of course but one can only hope.

Agreed. Many of us hope they will have war crimes tribunals, Nuremberg style trials, and other means to lock up that entire family for the rest of their decrepit ant and toxic lives.

The world would be a much better place without that parasitic mafia clan.

They are aware of it but just either seem to not care or truly believe they are untouchable. At least Bannon can see the writing on the wall -

“In November 2025, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon warned a crowd at a Conservative Partnership Institute event that if Republicans lose the 2026 midterms and the 2028 presidential election, he and other conservatives could face prison time“

That would be such a fantastic outcome and it would give encouragement to hundreds of millions of people around the world, that the US justice system in America still works, and is still capable of holding people with dark hearts, a criminal nature, and extreme levels of corruption accountable. But many of us hope members of the Trump family are soon wearing orange jumpsuits, and making very intimate friends in federal prison. It's unlikely but one can always hold out hope.

In February 2026, Oman mediated in talks between Washington and Tehran.

Oman reported a major breakthrough where Iran agreed never to stockpile enriched uranium and to dilute its existing supply, a deal described as "better than the 2015 nuclear deal".

So what excuse does Trump have for starting the war?

Trump will pardon them. The only risk is that Trump may die before that.

This is starting to smell a lot like a forever war starting in the Middle East of all places not some inconseqential country far away inspired by Isreal/Netanhayu and the idiot in the White House. Some spectacular videos on X of the islamic Resistance in Iraq using cheap fpv frones on a US air base - real Ukraine war vibes and not a drone net in place. Zelenskiy has offered help but Trump turned him down. Probably because he is the smartest general who ever lived. Yeah.

"So what excuse does Trump have for starting the war?"

  • To distract from the Epstein - Trump files.

  • To distract from the economical mess in the US in general.

  • To threaten the US-media "FCC Chair Threatens Media: Fall In Line With Trump, Or Lose Broadcasting Licenses". A big chance for him to silence his so called "enemeys of the people" (3rd Reich speaking).

I'm sure there are lots of more reasons. But starting a war is old playbook if you have internal homemade problems. Which he has to 100%.

Trump only has immunity himself for acts carried out under certain conditions as President.

His family, friends and cronies will have to rely on him handing out pardons. He will have his work cut out trying to identify and issue pardons for each and every supposed grift.

The latest possibly being the 70 billion fees to cover the TikTok sale to said cronies.

Of course if his mental acuity deteriorates further, they might all be left in the lurch.

Bidens Robopen is probably in some cupboard of the White House they could program that and get it whirring away 24/7 for a few weeks.

Knowingly committing illegal acts in the knowledge of an expected pardon should be grounds for it being considered outside the bounds of a pardon.

No, it's because the Jewish billionaires got trump elected so he had to repay them.

I posted another theory in the other thread.

To pay off the massive debt.

RIsing oil prices benefits the US.

US currency will be massively devalued in the next 3-4 years and a lower currency means it's easier to pay off the debt.

Bad news for the average American if its true. It might mean more inflation with a continuing devaluing dollar.
