Airconditioning in bars

Featured Replies

May I ask this in the Pattaya forum , because I believe Bangkok may be different

Air conditioned bars

, i am observing they get less customers, do you believe I'm correct ?

I had a farang recently who told me that particular bar failed as it had glass windows and was air conditioned, I was absolutely and what's the word.... gobsmacked!

Does it make you consider stepping in perhaps some hesitation ?

and opening the glass doors to go in , do you prefer open bars and why ?

I didn't notice in my study many glass fronted air conditioned beer bars I must say particularly in Soi Bukhao

I like open air for bars and coffee shops, I don't want AC, only at home when I'm trying to sleep

You are correct........No doubt in my mind......people do not want to go 'inside'......they are even reluctant to walk up to the first floor of a bar.

You don't use AC during the day in April-June? I'm not proud of it but I now spend on average 20 hours a days in AC rooms. I sleep in AC, I wander over to my exercise room late morning that has AC and a nice view, then bounce around my bedroom and my wife's yoga room that has AC until I go to bed. Man I'm weak!

Mixed thoughts, if comfy, don't care if AC is at a venue. At coffee shop today, sat in AC, as brutal outside in sun. Had coffee & cake, when done, went upstairs to 2nd floor, all open with bay view, and I was surprised how comfortable it was. Shaded and lovely breeze.

Walk from front door to car, and brutal again. Took dog for very short walk, and we both decided, that was enough, back to the AC car.

@atpeace at the house, bedroom AC on probably 24 hrs when home. Also where TV & laptop is. Other AC on at leas 10 hrs a day, 7 or 8 AM till 6 PM.

Left to go to coffee shop, out of hours shy of 2 hrs, we didn't turn the ACs off.

Everybody wears tropical light gear in Thailand. So no point in freezing, catching a cold, in some over air-conned bar or restaurant. Excessive aircon can be considered by some nations as a sign of luxury and prestige. But for the foreigner in Thailand, who is the one that in fact in bringing all the money, excessive aircon is more of a burden and that is to be avoided at all costs. Nobody wants to fall sick in Thailand.

Except a certain one on LK Metro!

I'm not even sure it can be called a Bar-Beer if it has A/C, three walls and a glass frontage. They usually get the distinction of being called a Club, with the commensurate pricing. coffee1

The larger Irish and sports bars do have aircon, but when I used to go to bars, I liked to sit outside facing the street and look at people passing by, or the neighbour bars. Thats was kind of entertaining, sometimes. Just observing the flow of different people one way or another. Now I mostly go to a bar to see a sport event of a kind, or grab a Irish beer. Prefer Aircon restaurants if not by the sea

Agree 100% I certainly don't leave the house, to sit inside another building, without a view. If weather is good, then shaded outdoors seating is a plus.

A non-AC place will be open to the street. And the rest of the world. Glass-enclosed appears remote and private.

It certain Latin American countries the bars have blacked-out windows and a blackout curtain covers the door so the good people outside will not be able to see the sinners inside drinking that terrible stuff.

Personally I avoid outside places, but if I must it'll have to be well away from the sidewalk. In Brazil, some people passing might ask for some of what you're eating.

And in Brazil, many places you need to keep control of your belonging especially outside facilities, in Thailand you can leave keys and phone on table, go for a leak, and nothing is touched when you come back. However, I never leave my drink alone, thats rule nr one.

I am not a habitue of Pattaya bars, but I would suggest that having a chap outside in a fluorescent waistcoat with a notebook and pencil, observing who goes in and taking notes would persuade me to go elsewhere. I also suggest that the bar owners would rapidly object, and quite possibly insert your pencil where the sun doesn't shine!

Your writing lacks imagination. At the very least, enlist the assistance of people who have creative writing skills.

Your personna is a rip off of Trenty Tiger Pants who did similar 20 years ago.

He was first on my ignored list, but he still pops up now and then……….most if not all of his posts are nonsensible, have no real value whatsoever…….I tired of him on day one.

Your generalization is inaccurate. My friend had his bag stolen in Patong. He is Thai and left it on a chair while he went to get a beer. I took my eye off of it for a few minutes and it was gone. Another, had his European quality motorbike helmet stolen. Theft of phones and purses following a vehicle collision when people are injured is a common complaint.

I agree, some places in Thailand is not much different than other places in the world. However, I have lucky, never lost a helmet, or anything else stolen from me. It is false trust in people, and I isaan they steel from each other like ravens if they do not protect their belongings, fruit on the trees, fish in the ponds ………………

no, i take air conditioned bar with naked girls in my view every day of the week, and cant find a single solitary reason not to
