Send Report to Social Security (Form 7162)

Featured Replies

Has anyone been able to send their Report to Social Security (Form 7162) letters to the US since sending mail from Thailand to the US via the Thai Post is basically impossible? Thanks.

Approaching our 6 year anniversary of moving to CM... We've sent the replies once with the Thai Post tracking option and 3/4 times with the cheapest Thai Post option. All arrived.

I always send 2 back, snail mail, cheapest, and space them out about a week apart, the past 5 yrs or so, as once they didn't receive.

I did receive warning of no filing once, submitted form again and SS deposit was NOT interrupted. Why I send 2 now.

Sorry, my bad. I'm referring to the new "De Minimis" regulation since August 2025, where you can no longer send parcels very easily from Thai Post to the US. Was there a problem with the letter to Social Security?

No probs

The change in US regulations only applies to parcels. No need to return the 7162 as anything other than a normal letter.

Thanks folks. My small, local Thai Post office can be rather difficult to deal with. They rarely deal with international mail of any sort and seem to struggle when I send something to the US, even a letter.

It seems you use direct SS deposit.

I was wondering if I change my SS address to Thailand in purpose of SS direct deposit can I still keep my U.S. address with banks ?

I kept my Us address as I hit done research before moving to Thailand and realized that it was the smartest thing to do. Us social security has my Us address and because of this I don't have to deal with the are you still alive letter that many have to send back every year to confirm you're still above ground. I I'm lucky that my son lives in Las Vegas and he is a junior so both our names are the same. I've been doing this for almost 25 years without a single issue.

I’m have used my sister address for more than 10 y and she is willing to move to a different state. Our names are not the same and basically that will be my problem. Unless I change my address with every bank individually , not by post office website since I’m not physically in the U.S. not sure if it works this way.

Yes, I do that, as my company pension will only deposit in US bank. Use my brother's address for that, as no longer own property in USA.

If you go to the SS admin page, they tell you not to send the forms. They are not being read. All because of budget cuts. The last time I read it ( a month ago), it said accounts are being processed as normal. You will be notified when the forms should be sent.

I’ve been sending mine back by regular Thai post for 6 years. Five of the 6 years I had no problems. One year the form made it all the way to the US but was returned with a US postal service sticker saying that it could not be delivered as addressed which was strange since I sent it in the envelope that’s always provided with the form.

You can also create a SS account and download the completed form to your account.

Digital signatures are not accepted so must physically sign the form.

I both mail it and download it.

I would be surprised if you're not able to change your addresses online with the post office. Of course I guess they would have to have a way to make sure it was you that was doing it so you may have to do it in person. A quick check shows that you can
