American FEEL GOOD topic -- what's still really great about the USA?

Why I have no real desire to return. Only have 2 brothers I talk to, and wouldn't live back in PA/NJ area anyway. So wouldn't talk to them much more than I do now.

With exception of Nat. Parks, and possibly life saving healthcare in an emergency (though I'd live rural there), nothing there for me, except playing tourist at the parks. Probably after a year of that, and I'd be bored.

I outlived all my childhood, hometown friends. Haven't seen my nieces & nephews since they were wee ones. Coworker relationships are scattered all over, and wouldn't have a clue even where they are.

I'd hop over with the wife for a year, if it wasn't so expensive to play tourist. Hard to justify that cost, just to see a few really nice Nat. Parks. Playing tourist isn't the wife's thing, and she's happier just sitting home with the Greenhouse & garden.

The joy of us all being ourselves & individuals.

Cheers.🙃🙃

If you have Canadian ancestry you can now apply for Canadian citizenship.

Just finished a 2 week road trip in US. The only thing which might sour things for folks is lack of enough money. If you want nice hotels and nice restaurants, it's going to cost you. It's an awesome country if you have the funds.

They mostly speak English. That's about it.

You could say the same thing about pretty much any country.

If people judge countries by who is in charge, president, prime minister, king or queen then I guess all countries suck.

The head of state or the legislative body of any country has never determined my smile.

So where do you live and are you completely happy with your head of state or government and why are you still there ?

Pesidents, prime ministers and evens kings and queens are temporary. Eventually new faces take over. Of course sometimes new faces can be worse then the old faces.

I was assigned to Venice beach area for a few months.and it was bad back then and now even worse. i would not want to go back there. The homeless, mentally ill and addicts run the place now. What a shame because I head from the old guys who worked it during the 70's and 80's they said that was great place.

I've heard the same stories about Venice Beach but we walked the entire boardwalk and there was no tent encampments. Now this was like 1000 but the place was very quiet with many businesses shut down. There was alot more going on in the 90's and early 2000's. I didn't go all the side streets as I'm sure that's gotten worse.

Great steaks

Great people

Everything is easy

Great Mexican food

Great ethic foods of all kinds

Great burger joints

Amazon is great

Local stores are great

Great diners

Great medical care

I've had Cheesecake factory at Central World, and think it's great, but I would not go there in the US.

Great immigration stories like this.

Chinese with thick Mississippi accents -- I love it.

I have never had a great steak in Thailand, I have had decent steaks.

I have never had great Mexican food in Thailand, I have had okay Mexican food,

I have never been to a great diner in Thailand. Again, just okay, and not many,

While it is great in Thailand, Amazon is much better in the US.

Where do you find consistently great burgers/burger joints in Thailand?

Double Whopper @ Blúport Mall, Hua Hin

Wagyu burger w/fries @ Pandan Leaves Home Cafe @ PKK (~฿179)

Start Burger @ weekend surfside night market (~฿130)

I'm guessing the reason is, you won't spring the extra cost for 'great' food in TH. Not a fan myself, as don't find it necessary for excellent food.

I've had great steaks served, great burgers (it's a burger), great Tex Mex (to to MX for Mexican). Amazon has the worst coffee for a coffee shop.

Fine dining experience, 'ambiance", I haven't had, but haven't tried to have either, as those days of silly priced meals are behind me. Have had some very nice meals in very comfy, romantic ambiance settings. Same same, but different than USA, and way less expensive.

The BK Double Whopper is a good burger, but one has to be in Thailand a long time to call it great.

Great burger has to have flame broiled charring & beefy flavor, and BK delivers that every time (location dependent), but they do need to work on their bun.

All the other things people throw on burgers, just cosmetics to me, and marketing to over charge. BK Double Whopper is 226gr of charred beefy flavor 👍

I also want a burger that actually fits in my mouth, not eaten with knife & fork.

I have had plenty of great food int Thailand, I have not had great steaks, burgers, Mexican or Tex-Mex.

I have not. I worked here for twenty years before I retired and entertained customers, coworkers and company officers from five countries on the company nickel at four and five-star Bangkok Hotels.

I was talking about Amazon the online retailer, not the coffee shop.

That said, I think the Amazon coffee is okay.

I have had what I would consider a fine dining experience in Thailand any number of times over the years, but I do not care much about that.

90% of what I eat is prepared and eaten at home.
