The Fuel Fund Board has approved an increase in diesel prices, with the retail price of B7 diesel rising to 50.54 baht per litre and B20 diesel to 45.54 baht per litre, effective 5 April 2026. The decision follows a reduction in subsidy rates aimed at easing the financial burden on the state Oil Fuel Fund. The adjustment will have an immediate impact on transport costs and the wider economy.

At a meeting on 4 April 2026, the board agreed to cut the subsidy for B7 diesel by 2.61 baht per litre, reducing it from 20.71 baht to 18.10 baht per litre. Subsidies for B20 diesel were also reduced by 2.61 baht per litre, from 22.22 baht to 19.61 baht per litre. These measures are intended to reduce the fund’s daily outflow from 1,708.75 million baht to 1,496.72 million baht.

The move comes amid rising global energy costs and increasing pressure on Thailand’s fuel subsidy system. Authorities have been attempting to balance consumer price support with the need to maintain the liquidity and stability of the Oil Fuel Fund. The latest adjustment reflects efforts to align domestic fuel prices more closely with market conditions.

Amarin reported that the price increase is expected to affect logistics, transportation, and consumer goods prices, as diesel is widely used across multiple sectors. Businesses and consumers face higher operating and living costs as a result. Government officials have indicated that subsidy reductions are necessary to prevent further financial strain on the fund.

Further adjustments may depend on global oil price movements and the financial position of the Oil Fuel Fund. Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation and may introduce additional measures if necessary to manage the ongoing energy cost pressures.

Long-haul truckers will have to raise prices and the cost of most everything will rise, especially for those in outlying areas.

Will definately hurt the diesel trucks, majority I see on the 7 motorway are CNG/NGV fuelled though.

Subsidizing the fuel helps people, because they travel cheaper, and everything they buy is cheaper because of the cheaper transport.

Actually I worded that wrong, the fuel Fund is seeking a 150 billon baht load from the goverment.

Diesel is increasing in price due to the fund reducing the subsidy (Bt.18.10/Lt as of today) to help ease the burden of the increasing barrel price before the fund goes bankrupt.

54 million litres 'missing' from the SFR......and companies now being audited for hoarding and misreporting reserves, which they are using to try and further increase prices.....land of scams.

Diesel prices affect farmers, usual amongst the lowest rung in the economy, whose pickup trucks are normally diesel powered; while it seems to make sense to reduce the subsidy on diesel, I fear it will be the poor who receive the biggest impact and worse still, those who make our food.

When I look at the many people who drive pickup trucks and therefore fill up with diesel, it's not just farmers, quite the opposite. Thailand seems to be the only country that subsidizes diesel for all segments of the population, and that comes at a price. Instead, they should encourage the population to drive less and save diesel an all kind of fuel, especially by eliminating unnecessary trips. The subsidies will eventually have to be repaid. Everyone who uses fuel will have to contribute to that.

The trouble with Thais is that they are inherently lazy and wont even walk 100m if transport is available

Quoting myself with example

I was over Soi 5 Jomtien extending visa using an agent

We've done all the initial documents in her office which at the most was 60m from immigration offices

Complete paperwork and she says ok to immigration.

I've gone outside and turned looking for her and shes gestured get on bike. Thinking we're obviously going somewhere else first I ask....no she says up there to immigration lol

I gesture her to carry on and will meet her there...... 20 seconds later I'm there whilst she's looking for somewhere to park the bike lol
